Well, the latest announcement should put to rest any arguments about how Dougie does not like to outsource, and how he tried with all his might to stop the Republic deal with the 170's.

It seems to me its just more of the same. If anyone is still under the delusion that the 190 wont be replacement aircraft for the 73's this should open their eyes. Also, I would seriously doubt the 190 options will be exercised. The way they are planning to cram seats in the 175 it will be miserable for the pax, but the numbers will almost match the 190. This is what happens when you have accountants and politicians trying to run an airline. Then a year or two from now they will have no clue why our FF'ers have left, then they will turn around and blame labor again.

This leaderships track record on the West prior to, and now including the merger speaks for itself. US Airways will only be a franchise. Dont think for a second that they would not outsource the larger aircraft if they could, I am sure they are working on it however.

OK kool aid drinkers, lets here how you spin this one.

It's hard to argue being profitable is it not? DP saved AWA several times. Even those in labor who don't like him much on the west side will concede that fact. Besides...is there any other option? We have many armchair CEOs on this board. I'll stick with DP thank you.

I bet you will, right up to the point he sells your behind out to some 3rd rate outsourced contractor.
Besides all that have you not been paying attention on these boards? This outsourcing is not saving anything! These jobs and aircraft are being operated as cost plus. That means Airways pays the cost, and then Pays Republic a profit for the privilage. The argument about the 170's was defended by people in awe of D.P. by pointing out that D.P. wanted to get out of the deal, but just couldnt do it as the old management had done this and he could not do anything about it. It has also been posted many times that DP does not like outsourcing.
If all this is true, then he is lying through his teeth.
Yea that is somebody to look up to.

I gave him a chance, just like I gave "Dave" a chance. I caught "Dave" lying early in his term and was darn near run off these boards for pointing it out.
so go ahead and blast away, I call them like I see them.

Well one question your comment begs is why did DP have to save the airline so many times?

AWA's relative cash position has always been poor. I'm not to keen on route structure, but that is a major reason so we've been told. Before DP, AWA had no vision of what it wanted to be Bob, or if it did, it didn't know how to get there. The 747's flying to Japan was a good example. The Gulf War back in the early 90's killed the Japan route and helped put AWA into BK. We wanted to act like a major, but really didn't have the routes to get those premium fares.

Post 911 in 2002, DP had enough vision to convince the ATSB loan folks to back us. We would have closed the doors had it not been for the government backing. Getting the backing was huge. AWA was the first to open the government's pocket book after several had failed miserably. It didn't come by accident, it came with a good vision and plan. About this time we announced we would become an LCC. Did AWA need this merger with US Airways? Regardless, both airline's cash position is much stronger and if we can pull it off we could just kick some industry butt. Will labor share in the success? We'll depends on what your expectations are. If your content now you'll probably be content next year and the year after. If your not content now what are your expectations? Gone for the immediate future are the East wages of post 911, and some westies may have to take pay freezes..or worse cuts in wages or benefits, depending on how transition agreements are worked out. Will it get better? Only time will tell, but I hope we have bottomed out and are on our way up.

So you don't buy the fact that the old management deal with Republic can be broken? If in fact a "deal" was done it's probably down on a legal binding agreement and not done on a handshake. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this issue?

I'm not sure I understand the first line here.

But my answer is yes I absolutely believe if he really wanted to get out of the Republic deal he could have. We were in bankruptcy, and they had no problem breaking leases, and contracts with anyone. The reason he did not was because of the bonuses for our previous bonus laden brain trust. However, lets give him the benefit of doubt and say he could not. D.P. then said he did not like the deal and wished he could have gotten out of it. Ok, then what's with the 175's? Easy Answer HE LIED.

according to ATA smartbrief....the AWA/ATA thing crapped the bed and ultimately AWA had basically one option....US Airways.Like it or not our fates were sealed... 😉

Indeed AWA's future was rocky at best. No argument there. Fates? Well there are still at least 35,000 folks employed more than a year since the announced merger. I think that's a much better result than anyone could have expected.

I'm concerned with what might be short term thinking regarding A/C configurations, FF programs and addressing the threat from JB, AirTran, Spirit who are growing and have business class. As anyone stopped to ponder what happens if SWA decides to add a business class.

But the question remains, are they pumping up the numbers now at the expense of the future? I've no earthly idea but I see evidence that suggests it.

Jetblue has business class? That is news to me. If any of them were actually making money I would be concerned. HP and WN has co-existed for years in PHX without much trouble.

Doogie has lost my confidence. Don't EVER ask me for another thing. I was excited to be back and help make this the best airline in the industry... not to enable crappy outsourcing companies to delude my quality of life even more. I'm putting the pom-poms down and going back to having zero trust for management for the remainder of my time here, which I don't think will be much longer. I'm not sitting on reserve for twenty years while somebody hires off the street to fly my airplanes with a Pittsburgh base. And I have too much respect for myself to do this job for 16 grand a a year... 20 is bad enough. I'm done.

 You lied Doug. Your just like the rest.
