Damn Me To Hell

I really couldn't reply to anything here until I slept on it. Here's what I believe and you can call me an optomist if you want to but it's better than the alternative. I truly believe that Doug Parker is a great person and a great CEO. I can't believe that he did this just to make everyone mad. Maybe he has something else up his sleves. I don't know, but I do stand by Doug in what he does and what he does for the company. We don't know his mind set and we can only second guess him. I however, will hold him accountable if he closes any of the US res offices before doing away with the outsoursed centers. He said that would be first and he said it to me.
I had to call U the other day to find out if they still flew out of FNT. I got Pakastan 2x and Mexico once and another foreign place another time. They didn't even know that U didn't fly out of FNT--as a matter of fact they told me they did and it would connect in MSP. Oh dear--let any of our top people call and get these centers and ask a really hard question--they'll be gone tomorrow.

Hawk,
If you would be so kind and support your position...care to post 3 positive things that Crellin has done since he got here?

Here's my take on "Uncle Al" being selected: There never really has been a point man for operations at HP. There is Anthony Mulé, David Seymour, Larry Massaro and some others that are big chefs but there are many chefs and cooks throwing potatoes, carrots, peas, and meat in the stew independently. The chefs and cooks range from Dougums himself to the directors, the managers, and the lowliest supervisor.

This may be good or bad depending on how you look at it. It can be a multi-armed beast whose arms have no idea what the other arms are doing. It may also create initiative and spark innovation.

As an illustration, let's say a hub is misconnecting connecting interline bags. Now should everyone wait for a voice from high to say that interline bags aren't connecting? No. A supervisor can say, "Hey, we got a problem connecting interline bags! We're going to do this-and-that with some razzle-dazzle on the flibbity-flop!" In this way, he has added his carrots to the stew and all is right with the world and nobody knows the difference.

Maybe in his innocence, Dougums saw Al and said, "Shucks, we could really use a VP for ops and this guy seems to know what he's talking about." Who knows? Personally, I think we could do fine without one.

You are right, he has absolutely no people skills what so ever.

I guess he wasn't hired for his people skills long, long ago. He never really had to talk to the bags, just load them.

Speculation only.... but remember that certain VP levels are listed on the US operating certificate as key personnel. The FAA tends to look down on having too many of those names change within a short timeframe, especially if there's question over their experience (unfortunately, their personality doesn't matter).

My guess is that Al's name is on the cert, and keeping him around thru the merger is simply to keep the FAA happy for the short term.

drifterreno,

Can you give us Doug's email address?

Folks, I ask that you please let Dog know, in factual, not emotional terms why Al Crellin should or should not be included in the new AWA team.

Thanks,

Dea

I posted a few months ago that everyone would be very surprised with the new executive team. While we all have made our share of mistakes, Al Crellin is the most qualified for this position and I am thankful that he is still on board. Congrats Al on your new endeavor. Don't be bothered by the naysayers on this forum as they don't pay your salary. Jerry and Chris both will do fine as they are extremely talented individuals.

Whether the man is most qualified is not the issue. The issue is the results of his decisions or implementation of those decisions. One can be quite qualified, but unable to perform the tasks required. The choices made regarding operations, the ability to transmit those choices to others and getting employees to perform the job to make the airline function have been suspect. We can debate which aspect has created the greatest problem, but that is an academic discussion.

Several people with whom you worked have stated that Al is "not a team player" and "doesn't get it". Those comments undercut your statement that you are "thankful that he is still on board." Are you thankful because you want the new airline to fail?

The last comment shown above is quite incorrect. Many of the naysayers on this forum DO pay his salary as customers of the airline.

From the latest HP employee merger newsletter:

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/102...p71001be425.htm

Al Crellin, 58, will come to the new US Airways to take responsibility for the airline's operations, including flight operations, maintenance, airports and inflight service. Al came to US Airways from Pacific Southwest Airlines, where he spent 17 years. Sources tell us Al's likeness may have served as the original inspiration for PSA's infamous smiley faces that adorned their airplanes.

Aside from PSA, Al's "former lives" include: LAPD officer and U.S. Marine. Al is currently US Airways' EVP of operations. Al is reportedly an automobile enthusiast (Corvettes, in particular, excite this man), yet he still refuses to stop and ask for directions. Al, we are co-mailing a map to Tempe. Welcome!

I think I'm going to throw up.
