Actually there was a joke(?) a couple years ago at US, that Doug wanted to remove seats and put in straps to hang on like buses in the old days. SRO Class, anyone?

The pitch is way too tight for most of our passengers. They wouldn't be able to squeeze between the rows to get to their "seat."

Absolutely not! If they did that, the company (DL, AA, UA) would find a way that because it was in the cabin, the flight attendants (that would be me) have to clean and empty them. That ain't gonna happen.

I think a partial stand up is probably much more comfortable and may combat the dreaded coach Thrombosis.
