Delta & United Merger ?

"Delta says not in merger talks with United Airlines"

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/delt...E67FCF71DE9D%7D

"Investor Pardus Capital Management sent Delta, which has been the subject of merger rumors in the past, a letter urging management to take a lead in industry consolidation, according to Delta."

"Pardus' most recent federal filings had listed it as having 3 million shares of Delta (Charts, Fortune 500), but its letter said it now owns 7 million shares, suggesting it has been buying Delta at the recently depressed share price. It also has 5.6 million shares of UAL (Charts, Fortune 500). Its holdings represent about 3 percent of Delta's shares and nearly 5 percent of UAL.

A fly telling the elephant where to sit.

Can we end this thread, now???

Who in their right mind would want to merge with LCC and have to deal with Easts employees? LCC won't be part of any further consolidation until they fix their employee problems.

Whats Wrong With The East Employees? We are A Strong Group! You Don't Know Us!

maybe DL hasn't been in direct talks with UA but it looks like both DL and UA have been talking with Pardus so I wouldn't toss this thread just yet.

The best part of all this is the SPECULATION!

We love nothing more that the combo scenario! 😀

I say someone will announce a deal within two weeks or sooner. (no later than 1st quarter)

I think the east employees would get along great with NW. very similar cultures.
Educated, as opposed to sun baked and brain dead.

Let's see, merge those koolaid drinking DL zombies with those disenfranchised, screwed over workers at UA, why that would be like a America West / USAirways merger.

The PHL doomsdayer's don't' seem to understand the facts of the situation. One of the biggest gems in any route system now and especially after March, is Trans-Atlantic to Europe and Eastern Asia. PHL is at least 200nm closer to virtually all destinations in that region than is DTW. With fuel prices continuing to rise and plague the profitability of airlines, that distance can make a huge difference in annual route yields. NW has said many times they are at a disadvantage without an East Coast hub. You can have the greatest airport in the world (like PIT), but if it doesn't fit your ideal profile it's not very useful. DTW's principal advantage is as a Western Asia polar route and sub-polar route gateway - which it performs very well. Further, DTW is at an even more disadvantage when it comes to the Caribbean - winter routes which are needed to offset winter Europe and Asian shortfalls. CLT is at an even greater disadvantage for Trans-Atlantic, but obviously at an advantage for southern routes, which typically generate far less yields than TA even in high winter months. It really all depends on who is the acquiring entity of a US/NW merger and its management team. I would not be surprised at all if DTW was reduced to Asia only and PHL essentially retained as is (the principal European/Eastern Asia gateway)- without China. DTW could also relieve some of the current domestic East Coast traffic flow away from PHL. A problem with eliminating too much NE corridor connecting traffic, however, is that even with all the delay complaints, I can almost guarantee business flyers would have a hard time adapting to DTW and the lack of alternate transportation therefrom.

It just seems that addition of the mile-long 122-gate McNamara Terminal and advantages of the various runways and the planned additional runway it seems like DTW has room to grow; where as PHL hemmed in by a river on one side, a highway on the other and various politicians on all others and congested airpace all above it seems like it will never have adequate facilities in the next 30 years.

Ummmmmm, I beg to differ regarding who to blame. East's employees? Any "employee problems" would be easily recitfied by a management team that knows how to manage our employees. We are begging to be led by management that can be respected. Additionally, it is an embarassment working for management that is unable to initiate intelligent marketing challenges, knowing who to market to and then managing customers' expectations. It can't only be managing by the spreadsheet.
Enough said.
