Delta & United Merger ?

If this is true, and it's allowed, US is screwed. Northwest and Continental will pair up, American might skim a bit off of each. Check mate, game over. No place for indentity-confused, barbell map, no international worth mentioning, craptastic America West as US Airways.

I wouldn't want to merge with us either.

Don't be so hard on yourself, EMBFA, your own CEO essentially called LCC the ugly duckling as well,

Parker offered fresh perspective on the merger issue last week, telling the same investor conference that US Airways may have a diminished role because it is the smallest legacy carrier.

"It's not as if we can force this to happen at this point. Being the sixth of the big six, we're not going to be somebody's first choice," he said.

What a guy.

The "big D?" Who talks like that? No one at Delta that I know. You are one embarrassing little fellow. Back to the ALPA board for you!
The Big D? Are you talking about that young looking Flight Attendant in PHL, who always wears the double- breasted jacket? I think he goes by the Big D...wonder why?

I never actually stated any theory at all about PHL, merely pointed out the FACT that much of the population in the eastern half of the US would have to backhaul to connect to Europe through Detroit. That simple fact is not changed by your irrelevant "Gateway" reference. By the way, the codeshare alliances you referenced are the norm at every legacy carrier, and have been for some time. Are you an employee or a student? (I wouldn't be asking who the student is if you are unaware that NW/KLM has the longest and most successful airline alliance history. A dumb attempt at cleverness.)
[post="0"]The flaw in your theory is that much of that population would need to be backhauled to connect to Europe through DTW. [/post]

Your bad again. Your own headquarters city of MSP is closer to Asia than DTW. Keep trying.

How bout this: NW connects more city pairs through DTW via IT'S POLAR GREAT CIRCLE to Asia than any other city in the east.

You idiotically stated that "Moreover, DTW lies on the great circle route (which NW pioneered) therefore allowing it to eclispe all other cities with the shortest distance to Asia from the USA," and now you're trying to give me a tutorial on the concept? (DID it disturb you that much to know that NW pioneered the route?) Let's start with the basics. (actually I wasn't try to give you anything, but your jealousy may see it that way. I was trying to fess up to stating it wrong.) When you fly the shortest distance between any two points on the globe, you fly a great circle, get it? Their is nothing unique about Detroit or any other city in that respect. (and YES DTW is unique in the amount of city pairs it can connect to Asia...got that?)To say that "DTW lies on the Great Circle... " gives away your complete ignorance. (DTW does lie on A Great Circle route to Asia (I've flown it many times, how many times have you? Was yours on the Great desert route?...base on your own explaination, only an ignorant would turn around and say it didn't) By the way, aircraft do not even fly true great circles on long haul routes, but modified ones. (By the way they don't call it modified circles route do they?) THEY CALL IT WHAT ...come on now, say with some envy...

[post="0"]To review our lesson plan, DTW is farther from Asia than places like SEA and SFO, as well as MSP. End of story. I did not bring PHL into the US-Asia discussion, seems like your trying to change the subject.

[/post]

[post="0"] Perhaps I should have been a bit more clear, especially since the LCC posters on this forum are generally pretty forthright about our workforce problems in Philly. (that's WHERE you really needed to stop...cause you are HARDLY in ANY postiton to comment on SPIRIT's performance let alone NW's) Well, according to my friends at NW, the same problems exist at your DTW operation. They hate going through there and say the work ethic of the employees is pathetic. (I just love FAKE windbags who aren't grown up enough to speak for themselves, It's ALWAYS "according to MY FRIENDS") Operationally, they consider the place to be a giant pain in the***. Detroit sucks and is getting worse. I'll guess you didn't read that in the company news rag.[/post] (what you ought to be doing is worrying about having a rag to read)

Feel free to resume bragging. (So the FACTS of DTW's operation makes ya feel all bothered? I think it is HILARIOUS how jealous you are of Dumpy Detroit! You can only DREAM of the revenue that flows from that beautiful 150 Gate, monarail zipping GALAXYPORT! I like how DTW operates, study it, maybe you'll learn something. I'll say hello to ya "friends" for ya next time I'm there  )

Story I saw on TV said there will be no more Delta ... the new airline will be called United and headquartered in ORD.

Will United unions finally show Delta's non-union employees why they should have organized a long time ago? If not the United employees have been paying dues for years for nothing.

Keep dreaming... both Delta and United already stated that they are not looking to merge with each other, all this talk about merger was brought up by over zealous hedge fund managers. Richard Anderson already stated that if Delta merges, Delta will be the one doing the buying, and keeping the name and structure, i.e. no unions if it all possible. When it is all said and done, you will probably see a three way merger between the US SkyTeam carriers, probably breaking NW apart, keeping the routes and Boeing A/C.

The new airline will be Conidelta, or Deltanental....

No one has paid dues for nothing.

Did any of the non-union employees have a say to what happened to them in bankruptcy?

Dues are tax deductable.

And I would rather work under a CBA than be an employee at will anytime.

And do you think DL paid you those wages over the years because they wanted too?

They paid them to keep unions off the property.

Go ask the US CSAs and FSAs what happened to them in 1992 because they were non-union.

Who the hell is this??????? Does someone really call themselves "THE BIG D"? and in a double breasted jacket in 2007 no less. It's no wonder nobody wants to merge with us.

A long long time ago, Texas International, Pan Am and Allegheny considered a merger. The new carrier was to be called "TinPanAlley" B)

Here we are 30 years later and we are still...

A Friendly Reminder,

This topic is borderline not about US Airways. The topic should only relate to how a merger would or would not affect US--and should not become a debate about labor or unions. The merger itself is being discussed over at UA and DL.

Please keep the focus narrow and on topic-only about how such a combination would affect US.

Thank you.

Double breasted jackets really aren't my thing either. But this young man was a true Ambassador for USAirways! He wore that double breasted very well. He was funny as hell too! We had a few laughs at the expense of some of the other Hostesses...easy to do with all the Downers working here!
