Really?! NWA, CAL and DAL offer unlimited upgrades to their International First Class Cabin?
No, but they all offer complimentary domestic upgrades, meaning that their top-tier folks get upgraded for free while UA 1Ks have to pay extra...

Avek00:

Please review the Mileage Plus program and see what benefits there are for 1k's, Prem. Execs and Premiers. The paid upgrade option for Elite members is just one upgrade being offered at the airport for those who have exausted all the regional, systemwide and 500 miles upgrade in their accounts. So please be more accurate in your statements. If you paid for one, you did not have any e-upgrades in your account.

Avek00 is a Continental Airlines employee who was banned from Flyertalk.com due to his continual derogatory comments toward United Airlines.

Wrong on ALL counts. I am not a CO employee, nor was I separated from FlyerTalk due to my comments about United (it actually had to do with my criticism of SaveSkyMiles, an anti-Delta gripe group). If you are going to attack me, at least take the time and effort to get your facts straight...

Hmmm...sounds like the "banned from FlyerTalk" count was right... <_<
Not entirely. Randy Petersen tried to place me under a "gag order" banning me from expressing criticisms about SaveSkyMiles or his involvement in that anti-Delta effort. I said that such a gag order was unprecedented and a step in the wrong direction for FT, and he then proceeded to suspend my account. I have the back-and-forth emails between myself and RP to document my claims.

Hey, maybe you guys can help me understand something here. How much more does FC really cost?
I know you were probably asking how much FC actually cost the company, but I got interested in the passenger side of the equation.

I went to Orbitz and specified r-t, DFW-LGA, departing on 23APR (to get 21-day advance purchase) returning on 30APR. Both dates are on Wednesday which is one of the "low-fare" days of the week.

Results:

There are only 2 airlines providing non-stop service, AA and DL

Coach fare was $286 on AA and $314 on DL.
First Class fare was $894 on AA and $2172 on DL!!!!!

You say potato, I say potato. Call it what you like, Randy did not allow you to post on FlyerTalk. I call it banned, you call it a gag order.
I know that I saw more than one reference to you on FT as being a CO employee, which you did NOT dispute on that board.

There were, but they didn't really know. The few FlyerTalkers that actually met him knew he wasn't. But it seemed plausible that they would have hired him since then...

MWeiss, thanks for clearing that up. I had assumed based on Avek's posts (and lack of denial on FT) that he was a CO employee. I guess that he just has a deep seated for several airlines; one of which is United.

When you assume...

With the exception of AA and UA (who were late to the game or have not offered unlimited upgrades to elites), the other majors offer unlimited upgrades to elites for the simple reason that their coach product sucks.

E+ and MRTC have all the other majors beat, hands down, from a coach product perspective. It's not the end of the world to miss an upgrade on either carrier. It's a nightmare on the remainder of the majors.

Further, E+ and MRTC are even more effective on international routes.

When United's RASM begins to exceed the RASMs of DL, CO, NW, or even FL, I might begin to believe that its Y product is indeed superior.
