President Obama today repeated the claim we asked about yesterday at the press briefing that Jim Owens, the CEO of Caterpillar, Inc., "said that if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off."

But after the president left the event, Owens said the exact opposite.
Asked if the stimulus package would be able to stop the 22,000 layoffs or not, Owens said, "I think realistically no. The truth is we're going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again"
"It is going to take some time before that stimulus bill" means re-hiring, he said.

Prominent Orchard Park man charged with beheading his wife

Orchard Park police are investigating a particularly gruesome killing, the beheading of a woman, after her husband -- an influential member of the local Muslim community -- reported her death to police Thursday.

Muzzammil Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004, amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light.

"Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible," Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said today.

Authorities say Aasiya Hassan recently had filed for divorce from her husband.

A new cable television channel that claims to be the first US Muslim lifestyle network in English debuts next week, bringing to fruition an idea born in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

Bridges TV founder and chief executive Muzzammil Hassan, who moved to the United States from Pakistan in 1979, says his wife came up with the idea in December 2001 while listening to the radio on a road trip.

"Some derogatory comments were being made about Muslims that offended her," Mr Hassan said.

"She was seven months' pregnant and she thought she didn't want her kids growing up in this environment."

Err no...and thats exactly my point. Cos classifies acts like this as simply "perverted religious belief" aka Shariah Law: Honor Killings would be something I would not classify as "goofy". Its extremism at it's most perverse. Acting "goofy" I equate with something humorous, and to trivialize acts that would be acceptable under Shariah Law is dangerous and ignorant.

This is the same Shariah Law that is now acceptable in the UK.

Just wait until it comes to our doorstep. Scratch that...too late.

Mama-Obama

Mrs. Obama said in Pontiac, Michigan, Wednesday that if her husband is elected he will offer more than a "quick fix" on the economy.

"You're getting $600 - what can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything, but maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn't pay down every bill every month," she said. "The short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good, and it may even feel good that first month when you get that check, and then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings."

So now that the messiah is elected, his solution? $400. Guess mama-Obama gonna have to go to the budget bin for earrings. :down:

This solution will work about as well as W's did. Our $800 will go to pay off debt or into savings. Unfortunately, that is not where it needs to go in order for the stimulus to actually stimulate. We should go out and buy something but unfortunately there are way too many people in this country who have the same financial practices of Congress and the banks so I won't hold my breath.
