What's new

EAST VS WEST

Yeah, when you worked for a great airline, got constant praise from your customers, Air Transport World, the US gov't, and JD Power and Associates, kinda hard to forget about it. Sorry. Haven't felt that way since 1987.

SKY HIGH states: Yeah....many havent felt that way either at USAir.......a great airline that had some of the best contracts, PAY, and working conditions in the industry. A GREAT PLACE to come to work, great co-workers who shared and CARED about the company! You could walk down the halls of Greater Pittsburgh in the 80's and be greeted by your fellow employee with a smile and a hello.

Sorry, that all disappeared after the "merger".

good point, eye....I suggest CLTBWIDAYSYR, get prepared to add PHX, or LAS to his name next...
Does that mean they'll be closed as hubs/bases?

USA320....nice to see you back...incognito 'er what???

sky high states: This THREAD isnt about bad management decisions of the "past". It's about EAST Verus WEST. Anyone remember those first group of transfers into Charlotte? They were shunned, mistreated and basically harassed. Pilots wouldnt put their employee numbers into acars. I remember a US flight attendant was injured when someone placed their bag behind her legs and another flight attendant caused her to step back and FALL. FORMER Piedmont Pilots blaming the delay on USAIR over the PA system to passengers. Southern employees upset because USAir wouldnt incorporate the "Speedbird" into the new paint job. Ohhh, and lets NOT forgot the pilot issues back then, "date of hire" verus slotting mantra.
And lastly, the making fun of your CO-WORKERS.......the BIG BOWS in your hair versus........BIG HAIR in PIT.

THIS MANAGEMENT CANNOT under-estimate THE IMPORTANT OF
CREATING HARMONY BETWEEN THE EAST AND WEST.

You were obviously there and what you wrote is sad, but so true.

Right after the merger my old lady was an extra on the 737-400 with a CLT crew. Before boarding she went up to the cockpit said hello to the pilots and gave them her employee number. Captain looks at her employee number, looks up at her and says "You're one of those USAir people." She laughed and said, "Heck, we're all USAir now." Captain was not amused by that remark, got pissed at her. He put his finger in her face and told her, "Don't upset my crew or else." She was completely stunned. She said, "You can't be serious." He yelled at her that he was "dead serious." She wasn't having any of it. She walked out of the cockpit, went to the overhead grabbed her luggage and walked off the plane into the jetway where she immediately called crew sched. Crew schedulers were great, said she wasn't the only extra having problems with the CLT crews. They put her on another trip with a DCA crew. Stupid CLT crew went out understaffed.

You guys cannot let this sort of thing happen again. I think it would be wise for the airline to dump the current employee numbers and assign new ones to everyone when the merger is complete. That way everyone stands on even ground and there is no "scarlet employee numbers" saying what airline you originally came from. It's a new beginning and fresh starts...don't screw it up.

I just read one of the latest newsletters that stated that we WILL be getting new numbers. Someone must be reading this site!!! Of course I don't have the newsletter anymore but it was in the Q and A section of it.

I have heard from our badging department that it will be sometime this year and, yes, we will be issued new employee numbers. The new numbers apparently would not disclose prior carriers or seniority based on the number itself. They said the only thing that would be consistent with employee numbers would be work groups (ie. Pilots starting with a 25, FAs with a 32, Ground with a 14, etc.)

Of course, one would only has to see that I am Phoenix based to know where I came from so I really do not see why changing numbers is so important. It's not really providing any kind of anonymity in my opinion.

Airwoman, Can you believe they actually posted that? Someone remind what year it is!
Unreal, huh?? But no response of any kind, including an apology, from the poster.

It's 2006 by the way. 😀

New employee numbers is just one small little thing that MIGHT lessen the seniority issues and easy identification. The same thing happened on the west when the employees were recalled in 98/99 - they were given their original employee numbers back. But it really didn't matter because it was all AWA. And because a majority of the seniortiy issues are union driven, this may help out some. Personally, I don't care one way or another.

Glad I'm not easily offended. 😀

We understand with all that is happening emotions can run high and speaking as one of the ladies on this board we accept your apology! Its so nice that we can forgive on tbis board and not resort to fist fighting. And yes I agree we need to pull together and get thru this merger. We need suggestions as to how to improve this airline and compete in this industry. Not just complaints. Sometimes we need a place to vent but then we need to get back to the work at hand, making this merger work!!!
