i was looking at lgw for tonight and i saw that they have tail number 942 scheduled to fly it. has this plane been converted to etops? or is this just an error? anyone know? if so , i guess this means we now have 8 etops 757's to fly european missions instead of 7 .

I guess they are "Thinking Ahead". Making spares available when some break down. Now watch a 330/767 sit for awhile, Milan/Athens/Venice/ Rome route plane. 757 can make Frankfurt from PHL, right? Munich? Just hope that the plane won't be booked by the USA Sumo Wrestling team, may not even make Halifax. Shoot, may not get off the runway in PHL, LOL. Nah, those 757 engines are powerful, they'll get up. Just imagine a Plane with 4 757 engines on. That would be one heck of a takeoff.

Or maybe they will use it to restore the Frequency's that were cut this summer to accomdate the LGW flight. According to http://gc.kls2.com/ a 757 on the PHL-FRA run would be 3,431nm, which wouldn't be much room for error considering IIRC the longest 757 flight around is CO EWR-TXL run.

does ship #942 have winglets?

the 757 is sleek and sexy (much like the OP of this thread <_< ); and her performance is commensurate with her appearance. the winglets just make her even more breathtaking to look at!

Yes 942UW is a full ETOPS conversion, with winglets, let us know how it all goes tonight.
Best Regards

Agree. Looks better.

Doesn't want to run as fast as a straight 757. I think it gave them a chance to straighten the aircraft back out. I believe there was a mod to allow more fuel, which, of course, US did not take advantage of, leaving AMS or BRU about as far as one would want to go non-stop.

Then where would the fuel tank be placed?

Only place on the 757 to carry additional fuel would be placing it in the cargo bin area, just like they did with the A321, 747-400LR and 737-300LR.

I was told by engineering that there was a STC? that allowed more fuel to be carried in the same tanks. I thanked mike and moved on. (It adds less than 4000 lbs.) It certainly would have helped on a few flights using 60 min ETOPs last summer.

thanks guys. i am actually in mad right now. i wasn´t working lgw. i just saw it on catcrew . by the way, i worked ac 277 a330 and we had a flap problem we made a slat landing only . i had the same problem coming into mad on the same ac on july 4th. it went back to phl ontime . i don´t think flt 741 will be that lucky today. we made a highspeed landing and the brakes were hot . you could smell them . the fire truckes came out and doused the brakes. a little bit of excitement at 130 am east coast time.

A/C 935 thru 942 will be added to the ETOPS program. The tail numbers will remain the same due to a records problems that conflicts with macthing AWA tail numbers.

BTW, theres alot more to moding an A/C to ETOPS spec than just adding fuel.
