Not the governments concern on how much profit a company makes. Its none of their business at all. How would you like the gov telling you how much money you can or cannot make?

There is nothing that can or for that matter should be done to limit their profits. They are a private company.

I liken this more to a dealer/user problem as in drug dealer/drug user problem. We have allowed our selves to become an addict to oil. We had a fuel crisis back in the 70's already. Had we had any sense we would have started to ween our selves from the dependency. Diesel vehicles, mass transit, increased taxes on non-efficient vehicles, solar, wind, natural gas .. etc. We have chosen not to do a dam thing about our dependence.

If you have a product that I cannot get anywhere else and I will die with out it, are you going to be inclined to sell it to me cheap? Cure your dependence and tell the drug dealer to stuff it .... or?

Edit: If you are going to reference 'wealth envy' would it not be more appropriate to show how much revenue the US companies are making as opposed to the other nations? I found several lists but I do not feel like taking the time to do the math. I did note that Exxon and Chevron were in the top 10 I believe and Royal Dutch is Number one but the US Shell subsidiary is their number one revenue source.

Have you looked at a map of the ME recently? Look at the location of Iraq. It's smack dab in the middle of the entire mess. It's no surprise that the US is building several huge permanent bases in Iraq. While we may not have 'combat' troops in Iraq, you can be dam sure we will have troops and facilities there.

It's all about the oil. We need to be able to protect our addiction and Iraq is the perfect spot to do it from.
