Fewer Speakers = Fewer Recalls

It's an outrage! An outrage, I tell you! Oh the inhumanity. Where will it all end? Expecting speakers to actually speak the language for which they are being paid extra! And, possibly have to do it off an on throughout the ENTIRE flight. Why isn't the union filing a grievance instead of agreeing to this.

Next thing you know, they will start expecting flight attendants to actually show up to work on a regular basis and on time! If that happens, I'm outta here.

In addition, we'll soon have to clean and service the aircraft after the flight on regular basis, so the company won't have to pay for the cabin services!

okoge1027,

I am just curious, could you have held LAX-I in the first place if you weren't a speaker?

NO. And I will be happy to do LAX-SAL starting July. I would like to be able to be fluent in Spanish. I have no problem with that.

And also, LAX-I proffer is something like 3000-4000 now, so most people can't hold it anymore. Most junior proffer was last April. It went down to like 9-13 yrs for non-speaker and 5 yrs of JP and similar for SP speaker. Once again, I'm lucky to have a job!

Jim its funny to hear some of the junior speakers complain that they have to do anouncements on both legs. I have to look at them and say hey just like me, and I dont get speaker pay.

I always do PA's on both ways, because I like doing it regardless of getting paid or not. Although I'm a native, it improves my language skills since I don't speak it at home. I also find that in my category of speakers(most of them fake speakers)don't like to do PA's and I can understand why for the fake speakers, because they probably don't speak it well enough, but for natives, I don't have a clue. If they're getting paid extra for the position, I feel that they should do what they're supposed to do and complain! Remember, things could have been a lot worse!

It's not always the junior speakers who complain. I'm certain that there are some senior dinasaurs who complain about things as well. Just remember one thing, without us junior folks(evidenced by f/a's decrease by furlough), your seniority will stay the same. I'm junior and I like junior people, because they're more fun to work with and they do things on layovers where you REAL senior folks just want to go to sleep, because you're so old and tired. I'm lucky to have a job...thanx!!!
