How is it you think you schooled me?
People arent getting rich off your money by being poor.
Thats where people get confused, they believe that Capitalism and Democracy and Freedom are an unalterable package, that in order for any of them to exist they must all be in place. Democracy and Freedom can exist without Capitalism.
No, but those receiving "public assistance" aren't exactly feeling the same pain they would have if they would have in the 1950's or 1970's.
Back then, you didn't get your Obamafone.
You didn't get free bus fare.
You didn't get free or reduced rate lunches for your kids at school, or free before/after-school child care.
You certainly didn't get a debit card for buying Big Gulps, deli counter sandwiches, or donuts.
Add all that up, and there's less reason to try and get off that assistance.
A couple weeks ago, there was an article in my news feed which showed that single moms on welfare had more disposable income than a working single mom receiving no assistance.
You'd think that being on welfare wouldn't be something to look up to, but when it's more profitable to be unemployed than to be working two jobs to make ends meet, there's something seriously wrong with the system...
they didn't because you addressed unemployment insurance which is indeed paid by the employer; they responded w/ a quote about unemployment compensation. How is it you think you schooled me?
The social security increase is just a return to the original rate. Obama gave you a tax holiday for the last year of 2% off your social security. All that happened is that it is back to what it was meant to be and you just didn't thank anyone for the increase while you had it.
With the new payroll taxes kicking in this year, thats about $3K more this year my family will be paying. Is that what the middle class needs right now? Ironic. Phhht.

I love the right wing email that labels socialists. And yet, you're in a union, pushing for another union (AMFA). Ironic, eh?
You're right, there is something wrong. It's wrong how cheap our labor has become, that someone on assistance has more spending money than a single working mother, (if your newsfeed is correct). Minimum wage should be raised so people don't have to work 3 jobs to get by.
And the obama phone?

Maybe you would have more spending money if the government were not robbing your check to pay for people gaming the system. Raising minimum wage does not work. That causes a chain reaction that inevitably leads to price increase for all goods and services.
People complain about how cheap our labor has become. Our government and American businesses have answered that complaint with embracing illegal immigration, H1-B Visas, and rampant outsourcing.
Your pay is being lowered and then divided. Welcome to Socialism 101.

Unemployment compensation benefits were extended for another year as part of the fiscal cliff bill.
It depends on how long you are on unemployment whether this kicks in. The above, as WT pointed out, was extended as part of the fiscal cliff legislation.Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) Extended to January 2, 2013
EUC is a 100% federally funded program that provides benefits to individuals who have exhausted regular state benefits. The EUC program was created on June 30, 2008, and has been modified several times. Most recently, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 (P.L. 112-96) extended the expiration date of the EUC program to January 2, 2013 and made several modifications to the program.
EXCUUUSE ME?It is ironic that you claim to be so against social programs while enjoying the benefits of one. It is people like you that is supposed to help.
