What's new

fleet

None of the companies top negotiators are there , the 2 sides traded proposals Tueday and no word on how Wednesday went. Don't expect too much , it looks like we are going to arbritation.

Was told by shop steward we should hear something Fr. However not holding my breath for anything
well the rumors are flying out west. Dale Salsbury(ramp manager)in PHX went and told the ramp that we are going to get $19 an hour top out. I heard there was no Hemmingway in negotiations and they are to meet again on Monday in ORD. Thats the word on the PHX ramp.

no news is good news! at least we know the company didn't walk out ...

I had heard rumors of the $19.00 an hour but nothing else. Again rumor only. If that's the case my personal vote is to just move to the next phase.

Coach,
my understanding is that ORD fleet were briefed a few days ago by a member of the negotiations team and that things are being worked out in a cordial manner to keep the IAM from going to arbitration where fleet could actually get huge rewards. Many rampers said that it appeared the IAM didn't want to go to arbitration and that the IAM rep grew somewhat hostil when asked by rampers to just go to arbitration since he didn't think they would get much back.

Coach, the $19 is accurate per negotiations from what I understand, plus some other improvements in OT/sick time but not as big as improvements as you'd probably like.

OTOH, the arbitration award, which appears convincing, would net:
1. $20+
2. Full retro pay of all money owed over the past 18 months. The math can add up to $20,000+ back pay for those US East workers who work alot of OT at $15.60hr.
3. Plus an immediate 3% yearly raise based on the contract that fleet would have already received, and 3% thereafter until a new contract is settled.
4. This grievance award will only benefit US east employees. This is the contention since it is my understanding that the IAM wants the west included in alot of the things that only the East is entitled to.

So, in a sense, the IAM may be willing to 'cash in' the "Big Payday arbitration award" US EAST employees would get just so the 'westies' could share. What the grievance doesn't include is anything other than the wage.

The important thing is this, the grievance award isn't anything to do with present negotiations since a grievance award was based on the prior contract and the employees would only be getting an award from a contract violation. So that, even with a grievance award, the company is still expected to finish negotiations for a 'seamless' transition.

My opinion, the IAM throws out the grievance case 'soon' instead of fighting for what the fleet service contract gives fleet service. The IAM is pathetic indeed, they talk the talk about the greivance but IMO, no way they will 'walk the walk'. Never have.

regards,

Once again I must ask, what about the outsourcing issues along with the crappy 60 day furlough clause?? 😱

You be the judge. At least no one walked away.
My understanding is that the arbitration award is a lock for fleet service. The company understands the 'fullness' of any arbitration award, including full back pay restoration, and most likely will not sign any transition agreement unless the IAM agrees to throw away fleet service's rights to the violations contained in the arbitration case.
Unfortunately, you can count on your [non]negotiators, each of them, waiving the arbitration because they are either owned by the IAM INTL or not the brightest guys. The only one on the negotiating team that commands any respect from members is Zuger, who has not sold out as of yet. Heyden maybe, but since he's from PHL, politics may get the best of him.

IMO, there are/will be two serious violations of duty of fair representation by the IAM that result in real and substantial monetary damages of fleet service "east'. The first being profit sharing as the IAM takes your profits and share them with others not included in the contract.

The second being any waiver of the arbitration that will rectify any violations of the change of control that will result in significant back pay and wage increases.

I'm not a mind reader but I think we all know the IAM good enough to know they are all talk and, in the end, will flush the arbitration case down the toilet. Either way, I doubt the IAM lets you vote on it either. It's the IAM way.

First of all, you are not even employed by US anymore and those of us who know your past and the suffering it has caused this Fleet service group are sick of listening to your antics.....

You have no inside track with negotiations and cannot even begin to predict what any arbitrator will or will not do....Your claim that the ruling is a virtual lock in our favor is nothing more then a opinion, your opinion...

So quit filling peoples heads with false truths and let the process unfold as it will...
