In new campaign, US Airways hopes you 'Fly with US'

Wednesday, December 14, 2005

By Dan Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Air carriers have a history of crafting memorable advertising slogans, from United Airlines' "Fly the Friendly Skies" to TWA's "Up, Up and Away" to Southwest Airlines' "You are now free to move about the country."

But not US Airways. Recent attempts to be catchy have fizzled.

There was the corny "USAir begins with U" in the early 1990s, the sleepy "Carrier of choice" later that decade under chief executive officer Stephen Wolf, and "Clear Skies Ahead'' earlier this year during its second bout with bankruptcy this decade.

The company will try again next year with a campaign designed to unify the old US Airways with merger partner America West Airlines. The tag line: "Fly with US."

Its better than the old AWA "Cannibal" slogan:

What We Serve is You!

Or the awful Jonathan Winters "Air Superiority"

Or the terrible one with the rockumentary rock band.

Less Fare, More Care is still the best slogan we had.

I like the current get ON BOARD too.
You are right on the rock band, what was their name? Was very bad and we paid money for that one. I think that is why DP prefers in house now. You cannot do worse than that.
The all time best is the MOSH PIT which is a direct swipe at SWA. They could still us that and just change the tag line. (How about "You are free to move about the world") after the cattle call boarding!!!

Mosh pit was great!

Remember the paper bag fiasco?

The John Hillerman Hawaii ones were pretty bad too.

"We promised less fare, we promised more care, we're the people of America West"

Frankly, I always liked giggling at my coworkers for the "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" commercial! THAT was a good one.

Or there's the "I see you" commercials...can't rememebr the specific campaign...the commercial in question was a ramper loading/unloading bags from a plane.

The Mosh Pit was great...Whoever came up with the aging rock band just needs to be slapped. I still find it hard to believe corp. higher up OK'd that campaign. UGH! It was EMBARRASSING!

GET ON BOARD and FLY WITH US! lol.

They showed us all the rock band (Electric chameleon?) at HQ, they had a slick ad agency guy doing a presentation to everyone, then we saw the ads. No one wanted to say it, but damn, they sucked.

I liked our first ad with the incredulous passenger "This is a LOW FARE airline?" when given his free drink. (free drinks, those were the days!)

Ok, once again, here's my problem with the LCC brand.

Is the slogan pronounced:

Fly with us.

or

Fly with U.S.

?

I can't tell from this thread. Why can't corporate america use standard english?

Those were my favorites! I remember watching those as a young whipersnapper and thinking, "I want to work there!" Now sometimes I wonder... 😱

And Row, it's:

Fly with US.

What the new US Airways desperately needs to do is plunk down a few of those $1.5 billion and hire a renowned ad agency to manage our campaigns going forward... The Deutch Agency, Hal Riney, someone of that calibre... an agency that is going to do the market research, find out what customers WANT, and react to that.

LOL....argh... how do you PRONOUNCE it?

Our corporate drones are putting together commercials right now to tell you. Look for them on a flight near you...

How about, "Fly US Airways, it beats driving!", well sometimes!
