<_< Barfbag---- This is nothing new. This is how the "privileged few" make their money! They network. They all have friends on different companies Board of Directors. It's a part of the "Good'ol Boys" system, that in some cases, may reach all the way back to their Fraternities in College! One person may be on several Boards. As is the case with Carty.

Frank Argenbright (chairman) fits the mold of an entrepeneur more than a "good ol' ivy league boy". With the exception of Carty, the rest of his directors have roots in the South.

Argenbright Security was a major vendor to AA prior to 9/11, so this wasn't a matter of a personal friendship without qualifications (think FEMA's Michael Brown). There was a previous business relationship between the two before Carty joined their board, and while Don's out of touch with reality when it comes to a lot of other things, he's a smart guy when it comes to finance and running a business for profitability.

Yes. Smart man who worked and earned his way up the ladder...

Argenbright Security was acquired by another corporation in 2000 (talk about timing...), and he started up AirServ to provide services which weren't covered by his non-compete agreement.

If corporate America were truly run by authentic Good 'Ol Boys, there'd be a lot less complaining from front line workers.

Let's not confuse "Good Ole Boys" from the south with "The Old Boys" network of corporate bigwigs who determine their own market rate by patting each other on the backs and giving themselves obscene compensation packages while they sit on each others Board of Directors.

Perhaps it's because racial integration was enforced more in the south more than up north, but Unions aren't necessary to be treated equally and fairly. Unless, of course, you work for Yankees.

<_< ----- Just for the record. You can't become an American Citizen "by marriage" any longer. In fact haven't for years!

No, but it does speed up the process. Marriage pretty much guarantees permanent residency. It also reduces the requirement for five years of permanent residency down to three years of residency.

I've got an employee who has been waiting four years for his residency (he's been here eight years -- four years as a student, and four years on an H1B). There's no guarantee that he'll be granted residency for another 28 months. Assuming he gets it, it will take him 14 years from his arrival to be eligible to apply for citizenship.

Contrast that with someone who gets married, and gets their residency within a year or so, and then in their fourth year is eligible to apply for citizenship.

We've offered to find him a mail-order bride from Alabama or Arkansas, but so far, he's willing to wait it out....
