Furlough Speculation

In some instances it may just be best to cut your losses and quit. That’s what I did when I couldn’t get a VF or whatever they called it, even with 15 years juniority.

It just got to the point where it made no financial sense to maintain two households while getting kicked back on RSV in PIT.

It's easier said than done and the grass is not always greener, pardon the cliches. I personally would never work for StarBucks. I'm sure it's decent but I wouldn't get any joy out of it.

When I was furloughed I worked at Starbucks and it was awesome. It really is a great company to work for.

I just heard a commercial on a LAX radio station for the California Highway Patrol. Starting at 68K a year, up to 90% pay retirement, high school or GED required. I’m serious!

Plus you get to wear a totally bitchin’ uniform.

I've been talking to other f/as and many think they will not have a problem finding 200 people to take a voluntary furlough this fall. I really don't think they will have to involuntarily furlough people. I mean, when you fly with people who have been here for 20+ years and all they get is crap trips and a crappy schedule you wonder what's the point of even staying here? Even if they do find 200 people, I am looking for another job and if I am hired for a position that I really feel is a right fit for me then I will definitely put in for the voluntary furlough. If not, adiós US Airways. I quit. I have a job interview tomorrow and another one later on and I will probably schedule more if I need to. Wish me luck. Bother way, compared to what we go through, Starbucks doesn't seem so bad.

Of course! One hasn't lived until they get to charge for our gourmet Mother Parkers coffee! But hey, at least you get free refills. Can you imagine? Those coffee cups are so small and people will definitely want their money's worth! We'll be constantly running back and forth refilling people's coffee cups. Don't worry, I wouldn't leave this place to go work at Starbucks! I just don't know how I would handle serving that crap after offering our pax Mother Parks!

Ya know what? The company does it to themselves and doesn't care so why should I? I'm talking about the blocks/reserves. It's just BS. How many years are we to deal with it? How many years are we to hear, "You'll have a block soon" or "we've suffered too"? I don't expect any compassion from anyone really as it's the company who dictates what happens. They FORCE many employees to lie, call off when not sick, and just be overall dishonest. Honestly gets you nowhere here. The system we have in place has been debated to hell and back. They are playing a game with the VPLOA's. What in HELL will 15 for the month of August do? Furloughs are looming and you offer 15 G'damn people a leave when you KNOW many would take it? Someone PLEASE explain the reasoning behind THAT! ! ! Now you have reserves who WANT to fly and many a line holder that wants a break from flying. LET IT HAPPEN. I myself want a VF or I'm gone.

If you're gone...Management wins...Stick it to them!

Well to me leaving on your own is win, win. I could at least walk away with my self pride in knowing I made a decision that betters my life. Even working the system here doesn't make your life better. I believe at this point in my career at Usairways that this job PREVENTS me from doing more than it ALLOWS and not really compensated for it. That is MY view on it from my stand point. It differs for others.
