Furlough Speculation

I would have taken a voluntary furlough or a buyout and have been waiting for that for awhile. I couldn't wait. I have completed my last flight with good ole USAirways and I must admit I feel great. I can now enjoy tons of freedom that I feel I have not had in a long time. I can now concentrate on starting a family without the pressure of scheduling calling me in the middle of the night. I just knew for myself that I could not bear another PHL summer flying across the pond in the middle of the night after getting awoken from my sleep. I now look forward to a scheduling free summer, and wow, I am even going to spend Christmas with my family this year instead in a hotel room. I'll miss everyone, but this is right for me!

Flight Attendant no more!
Congratulations. Life is good on the outside.

Ya know what? The company does it to themselves and doesn't care so why should I? I'm talking about the blocks/reserves. It's just BS. How many years are we to deal with it? How many years are we to hear, "You'll have a block soon" or "we've suffered too"? I don't expect any compassion from anyone really as it's the company who dictates what happens. They FORCE many employees to lie, call off when not sick, and just be overall dishonest. Honestly gets you nowhere here. The system we have in place has been debated to hell and back. They are playing a game with the VPLOA's. What in HELL will 15 for the month of August do? Furloughs are looming and you offer 15 G'damn people a leave when you KNOW many would take it? Someone PLEASE explain the reasoning behind THAT! ! ! Now you have reserves who WANT to fly and many a line holder that wants a break from flying. LET IT HAPPEN. I myself want a VF or I'm gone.
there is absolutely no comparison that holds any merit when senior blockholders attempt to minimize the struggles of reserves. most dealt with a wholly more livable reserve system for a substantially shorter period of time. i just laugh when the senior mamas and papas attempt to relate to being on reserve.

we've sacrificed our seniority for this reserve system--the most egregious failure of any labor group. and, as much as i sympathize and stand by the east pilots, it shouldn't be lost on any group that with the exception of one day per month, reserves do not have the ability to spend the choice that the seniority has earned them.

off soapbox...

WAIT....on my trip over to MAN this month I had a pretty senior dude ask me if I'll be leveled this month. I could barely keep a straight face. 🙄

I have to admit...I WAS LAUGHING MY ASS OFF on my LGW/DUB Trip last weekend when these 30+ Year Old Blockholders were like

"Oh my god, I can't live through another massive furloughing"
Uhh You have 32+ Years?

"Yes but at this company 30+ years means nothing"

then some other FA in the back came running up and went "Try 10 Years and being a LODO".

Jesus Christ...I feel bad for the damn reserves not the blockholders because they aren't getting furloughed.

It is funny how things work out. After leaving USAirways, many of my friends have realized that there are many other options out there. The airline industry use to be a cherished place that many wanted to be a part of, but only a few got through the door. Now, it seems like anyone can become a flight attendant. Unfortunately, the greedy levels of management have taken all the fun out of the cherished career and turned it into a stressful workplace filled with lies. I left when I began to hate to go to the airport. That is when it changed, or I changed. Many of my friends, my seniority are the ones that will be leaving. We are the ones that have held a block prior to 9-11 for a few months just to get it taken away. Now we are so close to holding a block, only to know that every winter we will be back on reserve, not even a chance to have the holidays off with 10 years seniority. We are the ones that are young enough to find other careers or obtain jobs at another airline. We are not the ones the company wants to leave. I don't believe that involuntary furloughs is anything to worry about. Just from the number of friends of mine that are done with this place, they will have enough voluntarily leave. I am not the only one fed up with the industry.

USAirways introduces a fee for every bag to be check and that fee has to be collected by an agent at the airport doubling the ATO agents work and management is talking layoffs with the passengers service agents GOOD LUCK PEOPLE

You should’ve Cross-Slapped™ him and told him that you were Mr. Blockholder now.

Honestly, some people have their head in the sand. I don’t think anyone’s been leveled since 2003.

Well to me leaving on your own is win, win. I could at least walk away with my self pride in knowing I made a decision that betters my life. Even working the system here doesn't make your life better. I believe at this point in my career at Usairways that this job PREVENTS me from doing more than it ALLOWS and not really compensated for it. That is MY view on it from my stand point. It differs for others.

Hi Travelpro! I agree with you. I really don't see how leaving will make mgmt think they won. They don't care about us. However, for those of us who choose to leave and find another career, it is win win for everybody. If I'm not happy here but yet I choose to stay I am doing a huge disservice to myself.

I only drink it if it has a special creamer in it.

Eww you're a sicko FlightChic...it's way too early for us to be thinking about "special creamers"

Edit ( Before I even Posted the Original): Oh wait...Can I get some of that "special" 😉

Can I get some of that special creamer? I think it is made by Bailey's and is in a little brown bottle? It looks really fancy. In fact, can I get like four?
