Future Hub Clarification

PIT is really confusing to me. Will we see PIT continue to clowly faze out? Some will argue that PIT losing its HUB status was the first sign of US slowly pulling out. With Southwest jumping into PIT, I wonder if that trend will continue. PIT was always vital to US. Then again, things could change around and PIT become more of a "focus" in a greater sense, even a potential Hub location. As stated previously, one could argue that PIT is more vital than LAS. But location plays a major role into HUB status.

PIT is an amazing airport built in the wrong city. Would that PHL had such a layout!

PIT is a line station. It will not be a hub. It is too far north for north/south conx and too far east for east/west conx. Pittsburgh itself is a fading city as is the rest of the rust belt. WN will serve as a line station too, not a hub. Get over it.

As some others have said, don't agree with this one. It seems that no one in Crystal City thought about getting customers from point A to point B in the FLL terminal. Customs and Immigration is a nightmare (and in a separate terminal). EVERYBODY miconnects!
Also the runways are a huge problem thay are constantly backed up do to two runways and we can only use one do to the length.

They should have never left miami where they have all the immigration facilitys and lots of runway options , miami is the best option
for a focus city or hub . Ft lauderdale is
not capable of handling the amount of flights necessary for the future or even the present.

The housing is way to expensive for our meager wages and the employees are leaving because of it. Now there are enough miami
employees to run it at the present level but no growth is possible..with the airport limited to one main runway and one for small aircraft , and there blocked in on all sides from future growth by interstates....

If miami would lower the cost of opperating there then maybe they wouldnt be in a situation where all the majors have either left or cut way back...

Ft lauderdale has some of the best mechanics
in the system. They are a bunch of really great people.

MIA "could" of been a hot spot, but isn't FLL the more popular destination?

But in reality, MIA may be the place of the future, considering SW flies to FLL and is not in MIA.

southwest has 12 over nighters in fll and no maintence???
fll is a beautifull city....but i would think
mia is more popular....south beach is there...
and its number one as far as beaches go...

mia just has so much better facilitys...for
tsa and coustoms and terminal ...and the runways..they are only a short distance away from each other....maybe 20 miles.

Im just wondering why Mr Parker said it was a mistake...?

Doug Parker (in last months US AIRWAYS MAGAZINE states that Pittsburgh is a Hub. It may be a small HUB, but I think you will see it continue to grow, not shrink. Look for the summer schedule improvements to possibly stick around. Rumor also has it that the county of Allegheny is close to working out a deal with the airline for bringing back non-stop international service. :p
