Given the upcoming merger and plans for the "association" between the IAM and TWU what does the future hold for the IAM pension at AA/US? Obviously legacy US IAM members will retain the vested portion but its unclear what will happen to new hires and IAM members who will pay dues to the TWU based on their location. The two unions/association will eventually negotiate a JCBA but its unlikely the company will agree to allowing new hires join the plan. Plan participants are receiving reduced payouts as it is, and while the plan is fiscally sound for the moment will there will likely be changes going forward.

Time will tell. It's all speculation at this point as you're assuming a few things:
  • The association wins an election
  • The merger is approved (it will be, but it's technically not guaranteed)
  • That a JCBA is reached
The company couldn't care less if we have a pension or not; they only care about the dollars in red for them.

As long as the M&R stay IAM there is no change in the IAMNPF, if you took the time and read the alliance agreement, since it will be a joint representation, the IAM and TWU will negotiate with the new AA to offer the pension to the TWU represented employees.

Nothing is unclear about the new hires, the cities are all ready specifically agreed to wether they will be IAM or TWU. There are new hires at US and they are members of the IAMNPF, nothing changes, its contractual.

No M&R are recieving reduced payouts, as no one in fleet is either, dont believe what Tim has posted, future benefits for the ramp may be reduced if a new agreement isnt reached with Fleet and US and the pension plan. The benefits they have accrued all ready will not change nor be reduced.

Dont let the facts get in your way.

This all was announced when the alliance was agreed too.

Where have you been?

Why must you always joust with someone, it's getting old...Whenever you find fault or an incorrect statement you spout out about the facts, but when it is shown you are incorrect you suddenly disappear from the thread....Your union knowledge is very helpful, but your comments sometimes are childish...

They will only stay in the IAMNPF if the company agrees, historically the IAM has easily given up pensions particularly for new hires, see Caterpillar and Lockheed Martin. The campaign can promise IAMNPF for TWU members just like Sito can speak authoritatively and say the DL FAs (if organized) would join the IAMNPF, the IAM only gets what the company is willing to offer, you have to negotiate it. The company likely won't agree to that anyway. Tim has said the IAM has cut benefits, and besides the pathetic IAMNPF payments pale in comparison to the pensions employees were promised when they started their careers.

For US new hires, not for AA. The current CBA remains in full force until a new one is reached and later ratified. Like I said the co will likely push hard to get them off a DB plan and history shows the IAM is willing to roll over.

DL F/A's will negotiate for whatever they decide is important to them, not what matters to the Int'l...

I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I'm not sure that IAMNPF participation even makes the top 10 of reasons why people are signing cards right now.

The IAM doesnt represent AA employees nor are they negotiating for them, you are just a feces stirrer.

The Pension is a non-negotiable item except for improvements. The three IAM represented groups at US are the only ones to who have a defined benefit program.
