Gauntlet thrown down in PHL

The Teamsters Union has lost over 100,000 members since Hoffa took office.

-In the mid 1990’s, before Hoffa, the Teamsters Union reversed a 16-year decline in membership in the mid-1990s by launching aggressive organizing campaigns.

-When Hoffa pushed through the biggest dues increase in Teamster history, he nearly doubled the International Union’s income. But Hoffa has failed to use these new resources to organize and grow our union.

-The membership additions under Hoffa have come through mergers not organizing. Three mergers added 140,000 members to our union, inflating Hoffa’s numbers and covering for the lost Teamster members since Hoffa took office in 1999.

Don't let anyone kid you...MUCH POWER comes from Washington.

I think it unfair to knock Ted Kennedy because he is wealthy. The Kennedys have always been for the working class, for civil liberties, and minority equality. Ted Kennedy has been widly outpsoken and represents many issues that effect working Americans.

You don't have to BE poor to represent working class.

The unions are very active on the "HILL" and legislative affairs. Lobbying is where the actions is. Having the representatives on your side, introducing legislation, and bringing light to the issues of labor is how change happens.
The word on the block is that the bad boys could be leaning on
Pa congressman Arlen Specter to put some heat on things

This maybe off topic, but in PA...Santorim must GO.

I will do my best to make sure that in my circle of the world, he's history come 2006.

Bob,

No matter what, the power is putting policitical pressure on the House of Congress. For one example: The "NO BLades Left Behind" HR bill is pending in Washington. The f/a unions and the Federal law enforcement agency are behind getting this bill passed.

And there is much pressure for changing the currently relaxed TSA rules.

Public awareness and polictical pressure WILL turn this thing around.

Many unions do many good things to protect work environment for the employees and public safety.

Ted Kennedy has been widly outpsoken and represents many issues that effect working Americans. You don't have to like him personally or politically, but he has been a unwaivering advocate for working Americans, reforming health care and protecting our social security. Those issues effect all workers in America and blue collar specifically.

With regard to the Republicans, this year they are going to have a really tough time in November holding on to seats and I suspect that will be a good indication of what will take place in 2008. Don't forget, BUSH won his second term on a "shoe string".

I seriously think in retrospect that if the presidential elections would have occured 1 year later, the BUSH administration would have been TOAST. B)
Ms. Pitbull

With all due respect....I do agree with you that much power in Washington is a correct statement..I know this first hand because of several personal relationships i have with, lets just say..."people in the know"....As a side note, before i get "questioned"....yes they are Democrats, and they are my relatives(I still luv 'em!!)...But....

Pitbull....To put Sen Kennedy on a pedastal??? ummmm.....NO!! He may be for workers' rights in some respect, but the damage he has caused to the country as a whole is what everyone should look at. He is from Mass....one of the most liberal(politically)states in the nation. Also, one of the states with the highest taxation rates in the country....last I checked, not many "blue collar", union jobs in Mass!!!!(No, 700, I didn't say any union jobs, I said, not many)

Finally, Pitbull....Please get over the election already!!! W won BIGTIME   Did you see the map with the red, and blue on it????? And, please don't even mention the "popular" vote.....He won that as well

Now NFS, If you read my post again, you will note that I said that the Nation is still conservative, and I have not seen much of a shift in ideology, HOWEVER, THEY are disqusted with the entire bunch in the WH, CONGRESS, and Senate. And Ted Kennedy keeps winning his elections in MA, so MA must be very liberal citizens! If the folks in MA is a state of Liberals, then it makes sense that a Republican won't have a prayer. I think it helps to achieve a balance...if everyone was sitting on the right, we'd all just TIP RIGHT OVER.

This current bunch are on their way out...and maybe between now and 2008 someone will have the balls to start an "impeachment process" on this lunatic of a President!

If you note that most working poor, if not all are liberals. many call them socialists. Why wouldn't they be.

bull.......look, we can continue this in PM, or another thread if you want to start this stuff...

The people will decide if "they"(Republicans) are on their way out in 08

Impeachment????Lunatic Prez??? T you should be ashamed for saying that IMHO...

Fair enough??? BTW..I have to behave...The Mod Gods are watching my every move

That's why you have to word your topic, intent and connect it to the "UNIONS" and "lobbying" Congress, like i did... 😛 I'm just having a hard time putting anything in about PHL.

I'll think up something.

For example did you know that Air Canada bid on doing the airbus narrow body work was cheaper then Mobile Aerospace, but yet the company chose Mobile, hmm, wonder why?

Cause the company doesn't want to keep giving work to the IAM DAH couldn't you figure that out OH SMART ONE

Over the past days, I thought I did exactly what you just said, but for some strange reason, I still got a call from the mod gods.....HMMMMMM...I REALLY have no idea why????
(700)....hey.....how did that get there????

NFS:

FYI, a conservative columnist on the editorial board of the Arizona Republic today used the "I" work while discussing Dubya. There is a lot of discontent out there and not just from the liberal democrats.

Ask your self this. Would Bush have been impeached for an act or oral sex? Would Clinton have been impeached over the Katrina mess, the NSA surveillance program and all the bad things that are coming out of presidential policy these days? Which set of acts did nore harm to the country and our rights as citizens?

Ponder that one for a bit.

What?

Nothing like feeding the public paranoia--scissors and screwdrivers won't bring down a commercial airliner ever again. That threat was eliminated when cockpit doors were reinforced. All this really represents is fear-mongering on the part of the AFA and the sucker senators/reps they conned.

Public perception by those who actually fly regularly is that the list of TSA prohibited items was (and remains) chocked full of items that won't down a commercial airliner ever again. I suppose if you consider suckering the "I'd strip naked for security any day of the week" crowd on their once a year trip to Florida successfull lobbying, the AFA has a runaway winner on their hands, here.

This legislation is also stupid in the sense that it completely ties the hands of the agency in question (the TSA) on perhaps the one thing it's done right in the past 6 months (sanification of the prohibited items list). This misguided legislation will also ensure that one can always carry 4 books of matches, but a Bic is contraband.

I suppose if the AFA had it's way, we'd all fly naked strapped into our seat. Fortunately, that's probably not going to happen.

Clue,

Please. Some of the traveling attire out there is gross enough. I doubt anyone wants to see what's under it!
😛h34r:

Seriously, I have mixed feelings. I'd rather all the cargo be X-rayed and examined by the sniffer dogs. But, it wouldn't be the big, visible show of "we're doing something" the government wants the public to see.

Since 9-11, I've had hair spray, a hair clip, round ended scissors, which would barely cut paper, and wooden chop sticks confiscated.

I've have tubes of lipstick carefully studied. I've been pawed over and had my bags dug through. Just like the rest of the traveling public. It annoys me to the nth degree.

I've been given stern lectures about my wine bottle opener, one that doesn't contain a foil cutter.

It seems there's never enough TSA's around to get the lines to move faster. God help you should be in line around the time they decide it's shift change!

Once, my bag was throughly tossed as they keep saying I had a knife! No knife was found and after 10 minutes I was allowed to continue on my way. To this day, I have no idea what they were seeing.

The system needs overhaul. The cargo needs to be a focus.

Guess we'll never see that happen.
