Getting Passengers Back In The Air

The EO's and extended leave packages are out now at SWA. It was encouraging to see the numbers come up for the 6-12-18 month time off and will more than likely get even more participation. Already heard a number of guys are taking the Early Out offer, also glad to see the years salary for severance over 10 years. Looks like this time they are serious about getting takers this time around.
Stay home for 6, 12, or 18 months at half pay. Or take the EO if you are close to retirement anyway with a years pay, years co. paid insurance benefits, flight benefits for 4 years, ect... Hope we get a bunch of folks taking the offers and get thru this without any involuntary leaves, but, we all know it still very well could happen. Stay safe all, and stay healthy and go spend some time with the family. Good luck to all.

I am hearing of some rumors floating around about the new leaves being offered starting Sep 1st. SWA may be getting enough folks to take the VSP (retirement) offers and may have to deny some of the other 6-12-18 month leaves IF they approve any at all. Pretty sure if this is the case there won't be any layoffs at SWA as well. 2nd part of the rumors are that SWA is expected to be right at or very close to full operational by years end or at least by very early into 2021.
So anyone dead set on getting one of the leave options be prepared to be denied. In a way I hope we are all denied the 6-12-18 leaves, would love to see all VSP folks approved. I think most folks see this offer as being the most generous offer ever made from SWA in history and will not get a second chance. I mean heck, of course depending on individual life situations, but if you are 62-80 you might wanna take it, future buy-outs may not be as generous IF there ever would be future offers of Early Outs.
A big thanks to all the employees who have and still are participating in these ETO's and leaves. These moves by the employees may have very well saved some jobs come this fall. Also a big thanks to all employees who are able to and are taking the VSP Early Out Retirement packages. All these combined have definitely helped out other younger employees stay on board with Southwest. Congrats to the folks able to retire!!!
Here's hopes that SWA can stick with their record of no layoffs in its history still...

Here comes our regular fall fare sale specials. $39? Wow! Is it still 2000's?? I don't remember these low fares for some time now. This should help with the fall travel. Also not blocking labor day travel and even relaxed some weekend days as well. We all heard SWA was going to get aggressive to get folks back in the air again, this is a great start...

No. Try again. You don't understand what SWA is doing. Not only are they encouraging or enticing passengers back into the air, but, will also be proactive on the passengers coming back instead of being reactive later. Most folks won't even see it coming. :)
Low fares are not a good sign for the other airlines, but very good business for Southwest. Always has been and always will be. So tell me, why do you think Southwest would want to build up a hord more cash? As you think that is what they are doing. What is one huge reason to "grab more cash on hand?" Think about it...

So now it's being said if passenger numbers do not triple by end of year there will be layoffs. With that said, does it mean SWA will wait until end of year? Or will they still start in Oct.?? IF SWA still has to involuntarily layoff, I would hope it didn't have to happen until after the holidays or after the new year. I just hope enough folks take the leaves, but I doubt that number will get met in total, so some involuntary leaves may have to still happen. Delta just announced that they possibly will have enough folks taking the buyouts and leaves to maybe avoid the layoffs come fall. That is encouraging news over at Delta, sure hope SWA can do the same.

And here is Delta's announcement of possibly avoiding the layoffs;

Swamt, speaking as one who has been involuntarily furloughed, it doesn't make much difference whether the layoff comes before or after Christmas. Either way it's unpleasant. My furlough started the day before July 4th, but I got "the letter" in May. (Yes, there is a touch of irony in the fact that it started right before Independence Day.)

Even if it is scheduled for after the holiday, the employees who are being furloughed will know it and already will have been given a specific date for the furlough to start. Unless Daddy left them lots of money and they've just been working for fun, it's still a shock.

Understand.
I was just thinking about all the holiday spending before the end of year holidays.
Yes a job loss is a job loss at any time of year, just hoping to get past the holidays before the layoffs, if, they are still needed at SWA.

Some more updated numbers. As of 13th, As of Monday, July 13, 3,501 Employees are taking VSP (retirement) Additionally, 8,099 Employees are taking one of the leaves (ExTO). Combined, this is approx 19% of employees, up from last report of 14%. In hopes we get into the 20% plus range.

LUV reading this one. Glad to see Southwest crack down on the mask and face coverings. "No Mask?" "No Fly!" LUV it. American followed suit after Southwest stricter regs later that same day, hopefully ALL airlines should banned together and do the same. You got a medical condition? Then bring proof now as it will be investigated. Too many folks lying their arses off so not to have to put on the mask or face coverings. No more will the verbal word be taken. Bring written proof from Dr. and be ready for the airline to verify said proof. Way to go Southwest!!!

Along with Southwest's recent announcement of no layoffs, let's hope we can get passengers back in the air and flying again by next spring minimum, more like by end of this year, and hopefully Southwest's aggressive approach to rebuilding will succeed. At least we have the balance sheets to do this kind of rebuilding thanks to our leaders and of course our CEO.

I say we passed the test on a flyer flying around and checking on the big 4 airlines. Way to go Southwest and Southwest employees as well as the airports. Now lets get LGA to board in the 10 passenger levels and fix that part of the promise to distancing while boarding. I also tip my hat to our overnight crews for supplying spotless and cleaned aircraft each and every morning all over the United States. You guys ARE making a big difference. With this kind of detail and efforts, SWA will rebuild well when the time comes. Keep up the good work...
