Great Flight Attendant Retires after 43 years

It's actually 13% of the workforce, and once again you have no clue.

In a unionized workplace you dont have to worry about nepotism and kiss asses like yourself who brown nose the boss to get ahead.

And in MTC when you get a lead position its based on seniority and a panel interview.

Why dont you go work for Walker in WI with your backwards attitude.

Because its a job that pays very well and people enjoy it.

Its their life so who made you judge and jury?

Sounds like Doug now.

Why would you be a gopher for dog and be at his beckon will?

Maybe upnaway is Doug

As my Dad always said there is nothing wrong with being a ditch digger the world needs plenty of them. For those that that is all they aspire too or can achieve I mean no ill will. But for the vast majority of the American middle class to think a basic union job is the be all to end all is pathetic and weak! I am from Mifllenburg, PA and all my family are still in the area and almost everyone thought you got a job out of HS for life. My wife’s family is from the steel mills of Canada and between the two of use we have seen the union mentality destroy towns and whole generations. It is a movement that has well outlived itself and needs to fade away!

Better go thank the members of USAPA, AFA, IAM, TWU and CWA, otherwise you wouldnt have a job, see those pesky union members saved the airline.

Why do unions celebrate people taking entry level jobs out of high school and never advancing beyond that?
Why would anyone be a ramper, gate agent or FA for life?

Me personally am quite happy with what I do..Would not mind sticking with my "entry level" job for another 20 yrs.....I still do get quite a chuckle watching all the backstabbing, bootlicking, ect, ect that goes by on a daily basis with management in the industry.

Gotta love those that have our better interests to heart. Flight attendant retires today after 43 years and no mangement types show up at gate to greet her and wish her well. Cactus is such a WONDERFUL place to work right? MGT should be ashamed ! And NO she didn't tell them NOT to show up.
You are so very right..
I am starting to get more disgusted by the day w/ what the Arizona people are doing to us.

All of that history is great, grand & wonderful and duly noted.

Now then for a lesson in basic human dignity, Union on non-union.

Would it be so difficult even for the head drunk to send along a form letter thanking a person for their X number of years of service. Wold it kill the arrogant one, Scott Kirby to place a phone call thanking the individual?

This incident alon with countless others continues to reinforce my point that US Airways cares little for it's employees and less for its customers.

It;s a sad assed commentarty that a customer and frequent flyer said thank you for a job well done by an employee prior to acknowledgement by a member of US management. Actually it speaks volumes about Parker's attitude towards employees.

Don't try to deflect from the issue by raising arguments about unions. Fact is a phone call and a thank you from a senior exec is the LEAST that could be done.

That is the difference between union people (7% of Americans) and everyone else. In every job I had I have done my best with the very real idea of getting a promotion, while in the union world it is all about putting in ones time and getting to the point that no one bothers you. A pathetic way to live especialy for an American with unlimited potential! 🙁

You sir, make people like Glen Beck sound sane. I only have to assume that you somehow get your jollies spewing ignorant rhetorical rants just to provoke a response.

Think and say what you may about union members (that you obviously have so much contempt) but if not for my union brothers and sisters (that you so regularly malign) and their sacrifices that kept this airline viable - you would more than likely would find yourself employed as the "Greeter" at Wallmart instead management for America West.

Diane, enjoy your retirement. YOU are awesome to work with. And, everyone, she didnt want the hoopla on her last flight, but she DESERVED someone from the company, there at the gate, at the very least giving her a standing ovation for FORTY THREE YEARS OF SERVICE. Alot of flight attendants dont even want to work their last flights, it's too emotional. Where's the corporate culture of this company when someone cant even met a flight and say, "Thank you"?
she carried a picture in her bag of her graduation picture from Lake Central from 1968. How cool is that!

Have you seen what US pays entry level management?

Let's see, less pay, less benefits, less job security, no thanks, I think I'll stay where I am.

By the way, are you really that much of a hump?

The backstabbers and bootlickers may rise to certain levels of management due to the fact that they kiss up to the right people. But once those "right people" leave to "pursue other interests," the people who were closely associated with old management tend not to last too long.

I'm a firm believer that doing one's job well, staying out of the politics, and letting the backstabbers eventually hang themselves it the key to long-term survival in a job. If I continue to do that, I might just last as long as 43 years at my company........which is 18 years after the special "thank you" reception for 25 years of service. This FA may not have wanted (or thought she wanted) any fanfare for her last flight, but I'll bet she would have been very touched (and surprised) had she been met by someone from management to recognize her years of service before turning in her badge.

FYI; According to CNBC last night, Unions got the 40 hour work week, 1.5 hour pay for overtime and safety rules which birthed OSHA. Having saved many lives and avoiding many on the job injuries which reduces health care costs. Can you imagine the costs involved if these safety rules weren't imposed?

A thread honoring a Great Flight Attendant gets highjacked by a anti-union harangue.

How can some one be so bitter?

Interesting, I've seen the percentages of pilots with the major airlines that are college educated. Something like 97% we have many advanced degree holders, lawyers, accountants and a couple medical doctors. I dont think CLT, DCA, PHX or any of a dozen other cities that are crew bases have been harmed by our union. Remember a Union should be used as a shield not a sword.
