For those of you posting concerns about the exterior appearance of our aircraft, we are starting up the paint tracks again. There will be one track initally with a second track to be added later.
The first aircraft will be a 737-300, a/c 523 scheduled to ferry to ARA on June 16th. The
737-300/400 fleet will be done first. The widebodys will not be scheduled until the fall with the seasonal reduction in international flights. The painting will be done in New Ibera, LA.
 
Go ahead paint them thar' air-o-planes.
Won't be nobody thar to be a workin um'
So they will have some new shi-nee vee-hicles to stare at why they kick folks out the door.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like some of the birds have had a tough go of it with the paint - was there any type of warranty on the life of the paint? Some of those aircraft could not have been painted more than 3 or so years ago.
 
Does anyone in Maintenance know what exactly is done during an OSC cleaning and how often they are to be performed? Specifically, are the carpets cleaned or seat covers changed out? Great move toward restoring our image with painting but we also need to start looking at what our passengers sit on for hours at a time.
 
It is called an SCO, it is suppose to be accomplihsed every 30 days, it involves a "spring" type cleaning, unfortunatly we dont have enough stations nor utility to accomplish it. For example a 737 or 320 would be six to seven utility to do an SCO. The carpets are not cleaned, none of the stations have carpet cleaners, mtc is suppose to replace the center aisle during an SCO, and replace the other carpet as needed, I can tell you when I was in stores we shipped out carpets to be changed and three days later we get them back, for some reason mtc never changed them..

Seat covers are to be changed on the RON as needed. There is a customer care check done I don''t know the timetable, but when that is assigned the seat covers are suppose to be totatlly changed out. But like I said, managment has cut utility to the bone so bad that the airplanes are being to show signs of it. But they don''t care.
 
LAVMAN, once again your facts are not correct.
First of all you don''t have to change all the carpets during an SCO, it''s not even in the paperwork. The interior SCO is to clean the interior, nothing for maintenance to change.
The customer care check is exactly what it is called, a "check", you are supposed to program all things found needed replaced or cleaned to avoid delay. If you could have utility replace covers then you do if not you program the rest, same with carpets, tray tables and armcaps. You change what you can and program the rest. Get the facts.
 
I have been utility for 15 years and have stores time, the center aisle is supposed to be changed during the SCO. I have sent more carpets to stations to be changed and the mechs never change them and send them back as RTS, and if you go into Merlin, and do MSSCO it gives you the schedule of the Interior and Exterior SCOs and the seat cover changes.

And while I was still in Stores the mtc stations that did the customer care checks were set up with all the necessary replacement parts and if they did not have them on hand, we sent them there for the RON aircraft.

a330, I suggest that you get the captain to "write up" the carpets in the logbook..Hopefully the carpets can be replaced when the plane is overnighted in a maint. station.
 
Sometimes I really think this paint idea when we changed our name was a bad idea. USAir never had paint....it was all brushed metal and decals. I don''t think we were prepared for how much "upkeep" it takes when you have paint...ESP dark paint. Maybe we should have just kept the brushed metal and painted the tail with the new flag livery.

Shame on you! This kind of logic is not permitted at U.....
 
They did use a modified silver body with the flag tail on the DC9''s that were used on the short lived IAD-LGA shuttle. All in all I think it was a very sharp livery.
