Help us out of this mess!

My wife has a 2-year green card, which was dated December 4th,2019 and expires in December, 2020. Under terms of the card, she can leave the U.S. for 6 months to keep her visa valid. We were unaware of the 6 months requirement, so I booked her for flights on Spirit and American Airlines domestically and on Eva from LAX to
Airlines to Manila on March 22nd, with return to the U.S. on September 29, a period of about 10 days too long . How can I change her return to September 17th without a payment penalty? Because of the COV-19 pandemic, what can I tell the airlines(or Cheapoair, the booking agency) to avoid a change of return date without a penalty?

There is no one on this website who can answer your questions with certainty. you need to talk with airline ticketing personnel. Explain your situation to them. They know the ins and outs of the rules for changes to your wife's itinerary.

I would urge you to tell the truth to whomever at the airline you talk to. Do not tell them it's due to the virus issue to try for sympathy. What would you do if they then asked you to provide a Doctor's statement confirming the virus connection?
