Bear (and local)...There's a great book you should read called "What's the Matter with Kansas". It pretty much aasks why "red state" voters vote against their own best interests. The republicans are the party of big business....they dangle a $300 tax cut or an election year bribe out to the "little people" to make them think they care. They talk about how they are "pro life"...yet Republicans have won 7 out of the last 10 elections, yet abortion remains legal. They talk about getting prayer back in schools...tain't happened. THEY push the buttons of class envy by deriding the "Volvo driving, latte drinking liberals"...and yet since 1968, the liberals have only been in power between 1976-1980 and 1992-2000. 12 out of the last 40 years. Are the problems we face REALLY the liberals fault? Or could the 28 years of republican rule have played any role in the shape of our nation?

Thanx KCF, for the INFO .

ONE.."GD"..thing has been true forever, about the GOP, and It's NOT showing any sign of Change,in the near or long range future;

The GOP FAVORS...BIG BUSINESS................PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now lets look at the word.."Favor", meaning to select one thing(s) over other thing(s)

If the GOP FAVORS BIG BUSINESS, how on earth can it be beneficial to the "Workers bee's", as opposed to the OWNERS(Stock Holders) of said Business(s) ???????????

(Additional meaning) the GOP/BIG BUSINESS....D O ...N O T...."FAVOR" Unions !!!

Unions get Workers(in 95+% of the time) H I G H E R ....W A G E S..., than BIG BUSINESS/GOP care to give.

JESUS,....this is NOT Rocket Sceince folks !!

Yes republicans are the party of big business as for th rest of it I don't think it is quite true. The dems have controlled Congress from 1954 till 1995 (the republican revolution) so what ever the republicans wanted during that time was not relevant. The Dems had the White House till 1992 to 2000 so that would have been another obstacle's. In reality, The Repubs only had Congress and the White House for 6 years. Not a lot of time to get much done. I think there is a better argument from the republican side to ask why the Dems have not been more successful in achieving their goals given how long they have been in control of Congress. Look at how effective the Repubs have been at blocking the Dems for the past year.

As for abortion, I do not see that right going away anytime in the near future if at all. A Constitutional amendment has to be ratified by the states and that is unlikely. Even though W has stacked the USSC with pro-life activist judges, I do not see them reversing Roe. There are few hot button issues with the Dems but I would argue that is one of them. Take away a womans right to have control over her body in the 21st century and I get the feeling the sh1t would really hit the fan.

The religious right has only had 6 years in which to force their religious beliefs on the people. Not a lot of time to get things done especially give that their organization and political pull is shrinking (when is the last time we heard anything from Roberts?)

New York’s Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton delivered a speech last week to the Economic Club of Chicago that served as an introduction to the right-wing economic platform upon which she and her party intend to run in the 2006 US midterm elections, as well as her own agenda in an expected bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.

It is a program that begins with the needs of big business and the defense of the wealth of the top 1 percent of the population, to which she and her major backers belong. It reveals, moreover, the economic foundation of the support provided by Clinton and the Democratic leadership for the ongoing war in Iraq and the threat of new wars against Iran and other countries—acts of aggression that are bound up with a policy of global militarism conducted in the interests of America’s ruling elite.
