What's new

I don't know how to clean planes, they say.

You stated someone should show the person how to change
the garbage. I am assuming you mean take it off the
aircraft. Flight attendants should not have to train
ramp employee on this process. If the flight attendant
attempts to remove trash out of the galley and while
doing this spills some on some on their uniform what
happens for the next 3 days while on the trip. Just
stink up the cabin for the next 10 flights.

What are you doing HELPING in DTW. You should be back
in your home station working not leaving them short
staffed. Actually your fellow workers are probably
glad to get rid of you for a couple of weeks.

ya i forgot..don't expect any F/A to go the little extra like showing somebody how to change the garbage nice excuse by the way with the uniform. why do you care why i was in DTW?? I put in 3 years with the airlines i got out right before NWA and Mesaba went into bankruptcy. But in that time i seen more flts with late boardings because the "crew" is out joking and smoking or sitting on thier cell phones when we should have already started boarding. so than we really have to run around that much more to get the flt out on time and if we didn't the crew was hit that simple. at our station we had alot of pride in getting flts out on time and we worked together and got along great. their wasn't none of this "it isn't my job" attitude. whats your next excuse cause the one you posted is LAME!! just an excuse to be lazy!!

na the detroit gig was all good i got to go make some great money all OT and i thought it was actually pretty cool working on the ramp at a friggin huge airport. met some really cool people. plus my departure from my station opened up some hours for the other people to make some extra cash so it all worked out!! thanks for being concerned though

Though I am neither a Flight Attendant or work at NWA, The ranter about flight attendants not cleaning, or empying the trash needs to ask him/herself if the F/A is getting paid while sitting on the ground, or if it is in their work rules. I would venture to guess not. Just as the pilot who held boarding until it was cleaned was not being paid. It is sad that these folks have to wait around to get paid, while an incompetent who is, cannot do their job without running their mouth.

like i said i forgot to expect alittle extra from the F/A if asking somebody how to change the garbage or showing somebody how to change the garbage is too much i guess they are just as incompetent.

this explains it all.    No offense to Kev who is much more smarter and educated .... but you are in a class all by yourself...in your "Easy Money" world.

Working at a Big People airport is neato! 🙄
  exactly!

You know, I've done this stuff in my prior life. Even went through the trash looking for passports of assylum seekers who usually use fake passports to enter the country and throws them away (the smart ones flush it down into the lav)

We don't get paid while the plane sits at the gate. Perhaps per diem counts but I think it's $1.25 an hour.

The whole principle is that the company hires a cleaning company, and you would expect the cleaners to clean the planes properly.

I'd like to know where we can take smoke breaks and just screw around before boarding because if there was such a thing I'm sure we wouldn't have any crew members left...we would of all been on a level and fired!!!

There's no airports I can think of where we can just saunter down the jetway and hide without getting into trouble.... or even be late for boarding without getting into trouble.

What a thing to say... just shows how much someone knows. Must be PTO's little brother.

I have an interesting image in my head......   and I do know when to shut up. 😉

Next time you have a lav trash can full and its time to depart, just leave it. When it overflows and the spring loaded door won't close you have to lock the door from the outside and make it unservicable. Notify the captain and write it up. If a lav is too dirty to safely accomodate a passenger and you are in flight...same thing. Lock it out and write it up. Its not your job to empty trash cans. Its not your job Jen to fly the airplane. Its not your job to repair the plane. Its not your job to pull the jetway up. Its not your job to reschedule passengers at the gate....get it? All of you who think she should just empty a can are WRONG.

AMEN to that brother. When is it the responsibility of the one who's job it is to empty the trash? Why should it fall on the shoulders of the cabin crew to do someone else's job? F/A's are hired to perform a job task just like everyone else is. I agree with your sentiment...lock the lav off and when there are no restrooms available and the letters are sent in, and after a 6-month study on the problem of unavailable facilities for the customers to relieve themselves....maybe just maybe they'll give the cleaners a nickel raise and tell them to empty the trash. (as they were originally supposed to do!) Give me all the crew delays you want. My cellphone takes pictures and the real situation can be posted on the web in minutes!

amen to that too brother. all i got to say is well if SCAB air had listned to AMFA they wouldbe flying filthy stinky junkers whenever they fly if they fly at all

I use to bring ice water to gate agents and even coffee.

Wow, Flight Attendants that actually acknowledge the existence of the ground bound?

At AA the Flight Attendants look at you like something they'd scrape off their shoe on a hot summer day, despite wearing a uniform with a large AA logo over the breast pocket.

Can't tell you how many times a "Hello" has been greeted with an icy vacant stare, as if I were a filthy street person asking for spare change.

Funny but that hasnt been my experience. I find most of them to be very friendly and they usually offer something if I happen to be up in the cabin working.

"Do unto others as you would have done to you".

It works most of the time.

Some people look grumpy even if they arent, but most people judge by appearence, others may be having a bad day, try smiling anyway, if someone doesnt smile back dont take it personal, just smile at the next one.

THAT is an exaggeration if I ever saw one. I normally like your posts, but THIS is ridiculous.

I have a great rapport with Fleet Service at my base, and I always take the time to acknowledge the Fleet Service people at other bases when they are performing their jobs on board my aircraft.

Everyone who is not management at this company is a BLUE-collar worker, and nobody has a right to look down upon anybody.

Years ago, I was shouted at by a Fleet Service Crew Chief at an outstation because I would not help clean a quick turn termination. He told me that I was just being lazy. I told him that I was more concerned with the preservation of his job, evidently, than he was.

Gee, I wonder if HE'S still employed????? 🙄

I completely agree, Bob.

I stand by my comments, I can't tell you how many times I've said "Hello" and smiled as I'm entering the cabin to clean or delivering the supplies they've requested and get a frosty look in return.I'm not leering at anyone, not making lewd comments, not pawing through the galley for a soda.Hell, I'm even in a complete and clean uniform.(Which is a rarity in itself these days)

Although when the smokers are looking for a place to fire one up its a different story.

I understand people having a bad day, but it seems a hell of a lot of our flight attendants are having "Bad Days".

The TWA FA's were a lot more civil, even knowing they were losing their jobs in the near future.

How's this one. The extra hotplates on certain airplanes are all deactivated.
(this incident was a few months ago) B)
It got a pretty orange sticker and it was deferred. (fuse had a ring around it and stated "deactivated")

So the write up in the book was for a deactivated hot plate that didn't work.

  You get what you paid for!
  I had many of these hotplate write-up's. It was either a ploy of the F/a's to consume our time or just the ignorance of the F/A that wrote up the hotplate to begin with. The sign-off went like this...

Duh hotplate has been deactivated for some time now thus it will not work. "dactivated" placard installed and C/B collar installed. A/C ok for service.

I have also been tempted to defer it just for shets and giggles. I am sure the A&P noted in the comments for corrective action to retrain the F/A's on the galley's before further use. Or just maybe it was one of those new-fangled AMT's that just didn't know what the hell they were doing. 😉

well if thenew amt didnt know what the h he was doing it is clear that amt person is just like the rest of the nwa mechanics--there are none that know what theyre doing!

You get what you paid for!
New hires, old timers who forget that it was deactivated. I still don't remember a memo saying they were going to do that.

Really screws up the F/C service when you got people wanting Decaf and Coffee.

"Let's see.... which one will I keep warm... or should I just switch it every 10 min"

Real efficient.

Another beauty was (I read) Jumpseat retracts. Then it was fixed so it doesn't retract.
