Hey guys, I'm trying to ascertain inflight staffing level's at IAH, and if Continental makes a point to ask an employee face to face, about their potential re-location if the base is short staffed. Can someone please give me some feedback on this matter? I'm a F/A for another carrier, and I hope my friend did not just lie to me. 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

Don't understand your question. Do you mean, for instance,
if CLE is short-staffed, can junior f/as at IAH be force-transferred to CLE?

That is exactly my question. Is IAH short staffed, and are junior F/A forced to moved there? If so, is the change temporary or permanent?

I'm not a CO f/a, but I have several friends who are. I'll email them with your question. However, I would doubt that IAH is understaffed.

Houston is by far the lowest cost city of the 3 CO base cities and has the best weather year-round. It is a very desirable base, and therefore is the most senior. If there were a shortage at IAH, my guess is that there would be people clamoring to transfer there.

Trust me, if you live in/near CLE or EWR, and you spend one winter in Houston where a chilly day is a day in the high 50's, and maybe two light freezes in 3 months, you will not want to go back.

I lived in Houston for 34 years. I can't tell you how many times I had to listen to people who had come from the Northeast b*tch about the summer heat and the traffic and the lack of a decent bagel. They would then go back to the Northeast in the winter, and change their mind about Houston's shortcomings.

I don't know about summer in Houston Jim. I think that is a trade off with Northeast (or STL) winters. And throw in the love bugs.......

No, it isn't. Trust me. Besides, Houston is known as the most air-conditioned city in the world. You know how Toronto has those tunnels in the downtown area connecting all the major buildings so that people don't have to go outside in the winter time. Well, we have the same thing in Houston, except it's for the summers.

I can always take off a layer to get cooler. There are not enough layers possible to make a wind chill of 7 degrees (which I experienced in St. Louis in December) feel ok.

I still get the trump with the love bugs!

Wow, you really are from Houston.

+7 would have been downright balmy compared to what we had up here this past winter....

The ice storm, loss of 2 big white pines, and no electricity for 5 days was challenging, but Jim we do have means of heating ourselves and our homes in STL......and we don't have love bugs.

Back on topic....

I heard back from my friend who is a senior f/a based at IAH. She has heard of no shortages there. And, she pointed out that they have new hire f/a classes graduating every week. New hires would be assigned to IAH before anyone was force transferred there from another base.

If someone were force-transferred to any CO base from another base, it would be temporary. And, no one would be allowed to transfer to the original base regardless of seniority until the people force-transferred from there had been offered the opportunity to return. (This is the same way at AA.)
