I don't think it can be summarily dismissed like that.
Just because something is "extreme" does not inherently make it dangerous. A lot of sports, car racing comes to mind first, does not seem all that dangerous. If you look at the design of these cars, they far surpass anything on the road were 10 of thousands of people die every year. John Force was in a bad accident in a top fuel race car. He car was shredded but he walked away with a few cuts and bruises. I saw a NASCAR n a accident a few years back. Flipped 2 or 3 times, rolled several times. When it came to a rest, it did not look like a car any more. The driver got out and dusted him self off, walked away.
Then there is a fulfillment issue. I love cars. I have loved them since I was a kid. I love speed as well. If I ever get enough money, I want to build my self a track car and go armature racing. Is it dangerous, yes. Could I get killed? Yes. I guess the argument I make is that as long as my wife and I have an understanding at what is at stake, then it is alright. I would rather someone die happy doing what they love instead of just going through life as a cog on a gear. Yes I understand that people get hurt in the process. And yes in some cases it is about selfishness. But sometimes it is about happyness and about self fulfillment.
It does not make the end result in your case any easier, but if your brther was happy doing what he was doing, that ought to count for something.
