Illegal Aliens now breaching our military bases

If we truly needed immigrants, Congress has the power to adjust the numbers. The reason they don't is they know most Americans oppose it - why would we want to add more water in the labor pool?

So this back door method of turning a blind eye to illegal immigration evolved. I'll guarantee you Bush will present the vast number of illegals as a done deal and make the case for amnesty.

One of the ICE crackdowns occurred at the Smithfield plant in NC. On the surface, it was about immigration control, but it was also about the illegals trying to form a union. Bush and the corporatocracy is not serious about driving off cheap and docile labor. These were selected show raids for the election.

Improving Mexico's lot is one key to immigration. Is SPPNA the avenue to get there? Given Bush's record, no.

to what expense? American middle class jobs? should we lower our standards to prop theirs up? who pays for this vast expanse of mexican growth and prosperity?

I'd be good with offering Mexicans loans at cost and perhaps targeted subsidized loans to start businesses in Mexico. I'd find a way to bypass the Mexican government as they are even more corrupt than ours.

With regards to conditions in Mexico, I hold the Mexicans responsible. It is their country. If they don't like NAFTA, they can do what we did - vote out pro-business/anti-working class politicians.

With regards to what's happening in America, I hold the folks that hire them and the government that turns a blind eye to their presence and supports them with tax dollars. Turn off the spigot, make it stick, and the word will get around the pickings aren't so easy.

You know it has to be really crappy in Mexico if Mexicans are willing to put up with conditions here they live under. We'd be smart and cheaper off to help tilt the balance the other way so they'll want to stay home.

I agree with your 'view' but that is not how it will happen. To be on a 'global' level playing field will be to equalize labor expenses to the common denominator.
Because the cost of raising standards (OSHA, etc...) in other counties to meet USA standards would negatively affect commerce (Robber Barons), then we will end up on the short end of the stick while we pay the bill.
Commerce is taking advantage of every aspect of 'consumerism' and if it knowingly kills a few people along the way, then tough nuts.

How many companies are there in the US that paint/strip commercial airlines today?

UT,

You accurately describe what has happened, and what is happening.

The turnaround won't happen overnight, but there are some hopeful signs.

Check out the new Senators Webb and Testor's economic positions.

My kinds of guys.

I hear what they say, let's see what they 'DO'!!!

Keep a record:

Testor Issues

Webb Issues

Of course, they are all generic chest thumping ideas that most politicians proclaim but never follow up on.

But I may be Jaded... 😛

The immigration issue almost always winds up with one political faction holding the hope that they'll get gratis votes if they push the immigrant agenda....look now,the gov't wants to exacerbate our baby booming SSI dilema and add immigrants into the fold too.

Hey Leroy,we been scrod.... 😱

Yes we have been screwed, now what can we do about it?
Seems both parties are intent on open boarders and waving a magic wand on the illegals already here that includes SS, SSI, welfare, medical, schooling, etc...
and the big-boys get a tax cut to boot all the while we get the hose.

The one downside to a Dem congress is they'll make a deal with Bush on amnesty.

In my view, I'd heavily fine employers, and there would be NO social services to non-citizens.

You and I are of the same mind, as usual.
