I heard a rumor the other day that US Airways might sell us off from a buddy of mine who works in Salisbury. I’m not sure why they would give up such a profitable regional.

Well I read in Airways magazine last month that Turbo Props are becoming en vouge again. So having said that Im sure U is at least considering getting ride of them. You know how they always like to be one step behind. They can take the money they make and bye 50 seat RJs since nobody wants those anymore. and for cheap at that!!!

Of course, they are en vouge again, now that the majors have desrtroyed labor with those little jets. There usefulness is over!

that will be the end to small stations if they sell them
maybe you will be lucky enought to work for psa or peidmont
but when they get done you wont be working for mainline.

Do you think they might merge PSA and Piedmont for economy of scale? The worst case scenario would have them selling off to Mesa, but I just can't believe they'd stoop that low.

Then again.....

If they felt nothing for the midatlantic division, nothing would shock me with what they do to piedmont and psa. At least they would likely keep thier jobs.

I doubt they will merge the two wholly owneds. Much of the corporate efficiency of a merger between the two has already been acheived. above all else they can use the two (or to be more specific, their work groups) against one another should it become necessary. not pretty, but true

Back in the day PDT, PSA, and ALG were trying to merge into a single carrier. The three airlines together composed of over 150 aircraft and 1200 pilots. At that time Mesa was becoming a very small part of the US Air Express fleet and RJs were pretty much nonexistent. US Air did not want us to have any leverage and didn't want a Comair type strike to happen. So, it never happened. Now that were are much smaller part of the daily US Air operations it would be an affordable risk for US Air to let happen.

Two have already merged and, with the very small size PDT is at now, merging with PSA (who also may be shrinking) is very possible.

This would make US Airways job much easier. They would only have to sell or shut down one airline. One problem pilot group to get rid of.

PDT is not for sale..I dont believe. With fuel at its price and with the merger still in process, US needs a money making entity. No one wants props anymore, regardless of profitibility. They will continue as is , wittled down slowly, a slow painful death. If US was smart, they would invest in Q400's for PDT to feed US, get rid of the money sucking contract carriers, let a professional experienced pilot group feed the big boys, let the wholly ownwd co"s do what they are intended to do, and get down to the business of being a "low cost carrier". I'm speaking in terms of money......And Quality. RJs DO NOT WORK. If the old Piedmont were still here, PDT would would be thriving, feeding the big boys, completing the job, on time, with care for the Paxs, and a moral work ethic. Hopefully, the new Mgt. will see the light.

RJs are silly for short flights. The cost and fuel prices are astronomical. Alaska/Horizon do well with the Q400 and it's the exact same customer experience as the CRJ700. The Express fleet should be DH8-200,more 300s, and Q400s, plus CRJ, CR7 and CR9. Update the interiors, noise canceling etc, merge PDT and PSA with Air Wisconsin and have one large quality airline. Get rid od all the crap contract ones that smear the Airways name. The modern props are not even notoiceable as a prop to passengers. Props for short flights, Rjets for longer Express flights and new cities US doesnt fly to. Dont fly them to the big business cities like Dallas and Chicago. Put the 170 and 190 at mainline with a first class. US will look at the Q400 after they have closed PDT and everyone else does it. USAir is the last to do everything, never a pioneer, and never one to be effiecient. Theyd rather have a rotten inconsistent Express product and pay crazy prices to bad contractors to replace mainline, not to expand the network.

I have to disagree with you on that point. I think the Q400 is a better customer experience for the passengers. Mainly because its bigger inside with more overhead space.
