Just trying to gage what everyone is thinking about the merger. Not trying to pick any fights or stir any debate. Just want an honest assesment of your point of view.

Nice job on the poll. I wish there would have been a choice for....Great company if the Company Execs and/or the Unions don't mess it up.

Yea Eric or Great Company if we don't all screw it up!
This stuff won't be easy and I know I am capable of messing up. We try and be smart, take the others point of view, look out for our own interest, the company's long term interest and so on. I am sure there will be mistakes and "do-overs" and as a Westerner I am not to excited about what some of the benefits will end up looking like but I am here for the journey and am going to give it my best effort and try and maintain a positive attitude.

I'm on board with you UP, but the employees won't screw it up. Company Leadership and Union Leadership can. US West and US East have great frontline folks. Just a little reasonable leadership from both the Company and the Unions and the airline will be just fine. Time will tell.

Whoa, nevermind about my question. For those of you who saw it, forget it. For those of you who didn't see it, good. 😉

Speaking of the “east side”………….

Feel-good ‘dianetics’ esque pump-priming notwithstanding, "what it all boils down to", is that it is the company leadership that will make or break it now. The front line troops are, will, and have been pumping away all through the upheavals; trouble is, they’ve been pumping against a calibrated leak…a flawed business model that’s been discussed here ad-nauseum long before the AW forum ceased to exist, and through all that, put out a pretty damn good product. You can't be that naive or even arrogant to imply that they've been secretly trying to scuttle this thing till now, can you?

So, right back at you: Everyone’s here already doing their thing, the stage is set. All the whoo-hah/it’s a new day and especially the talk of a new culture has been ballyhooed and all that. Well here is where the rubber meets the road. This is it. Now is you chance. Don’t screw it up chief.

Ahem: How ‘bout that culture change. It’s cheap, requires only strokes of a pen or high level meetings….yet I’ve seen nary a sign of it. Blue and white collar alike, It’s still the stuff that’ll supply ‘Dilbert’ with fresh material.

Get moving, or lose credibility you can scarcely afford to squander.

Fancy talk Iron...realities dictate that employees are mere objects being moved and placed as instructed with plastered on smiley faces. They have zero control as long as they are part of this nightmare called the airline industry, thinking differently is an illusion to maintain sanity in an insane environment.

It almost seems that the concern on their part is non existent. Has anyone seen any "visual" progress from the "fare haired group" to make things start to happen?

East Coast Townhall Meetings scheduled for this winter? "Just US"? New Livery? Workgroups getting together and putting together "gap analysis" of the East and West workgroups? Maybe cultural change isn't happening as fast as some would like to see, but the seeds of change are being sown.

If the "just us" is so that your group can find out what is going on, then I am very glad to hear that. "Cultural" change is a whole different "critter". 🙂

Correct you are Gonzo. Cultural change is a different critter. And without all the things that are happening and going on......including the postings on this board.....we would not know what the other culture is like. Communication and information are key to our success. We all have a voice so we must use it.

Well, it's still early in the merger. I forgot to add to my previous post that some equipment is starting to arrive in Philly. Some seeds have been sown, but will it be enough? I believe that many are eager to help this merger succeed by doing their job to the best of their ability. Management and Unions are going to have to reach acceptable terms to both sides and management can't make to many bonehead decisions. Not too much room for error.

As far as "Cultural Change"...this takes time. People don't change their way of thinking overnight. Empowering people to find solutions for their own problems and not dictating changes or micro-managing is very difficult for some managers to embrace. I guess what I'm trying to say is the cultural change required IMHO has more to do with leadership than the common employee.

Good leadership will foster teamwork, and when folks work as a team as opposed to individuals...well the results are exponential. What happened in Philly over Thanksgiving was a tribute to Philly employees taking the bull by the horns when supervisors failed to lead. Within their employee group they had leaders and hats off to them for getting the job done and done safely. Now, if the company really has hidden agendas, as some posters are suggesting, then throw out the above.... You'll see no cultural changes, it will be business as usual, my way or no way...it's always been done this way...etc, etc.

Leaders are only leaders if you let them lead. Just because they have a job as a leader, doesn't make them leaders. 🙂
