Johnson & Johnson has decided to discontinue its negotiated air travel program with US. The company has notified all employees of its decision and has explained that US does not provide the "value" to the company that it did in the past. J&J also has advised its employees which of US's competitors can provide non-stop or good connections to certain cities. Although J&J is apparently still in negotiations with US, they cite to the new management of US restructuring the program and making it not competitive. The carriers now being recommended by J&J to its more than 100,000 employees include LEGACY carriers--not one LCC is cited. I guess this is just more evidence that US wants to attract the hefty bag customer.

Brilliant move US! Take a family of companies, in the heart of your territory, with loads of people in the air, who fly at last minute, and spend high dollars...and so pi$$ them off that they quit on you.

I think that this is outstanding! Now it'll be easier getting upgraded without all those pesky JNJ CPs hogging the cabin and it'll leave more room for Tempe staffers to take FC seats too.

It's not just that US is no longer a preferred and required carrier, the employees CANNOT fly US for biz purposes which translates into personal travel particularly for those with status on US. Those J tix to Europe...on UA or DL or AA now.

Looks like some of the managerial etiquette from the east side is spreading through the offices out west....

we have detected a virus in your company

couple years down the road and its:

And it's kind of ironic that we have been seeing ALOT of Hefty bags this summer.. And I'm totally not kidding.

Look beyond the headlines people.

"US does not provide the "value" to the company that it did in the past."

Translation: US Airways wont let us fly at super discount rates in first anymore.

"The carriers now being recommended by J&J to its more than 100,000 employees include LEGACY carriers--not one LCC is cited."

Translation: Only legacy carriers are offering steep corporate discounts to J&J. After all that us the key reason that they are all swimming in profitability. 😉

Those pesky low cost carriers don't seem to want to play the game.

Just curious... are J&J employees "allowed" to fly on US by accidentally booking a UA codeshare operated by US?

Oh Lord, what flavor are you drinking today? Blue? Cherry? Pink Lemondade?

I know the discounts they received on those J tickets and they are not nearly as discounted as the discounted J tickets you sell to the public. I also know the discounts they received on domestic tickets and it is minimal--it's not like the government fares you sell. When you have 100,000 employees, those small discounts add up and what that shows is We (US) does not need your business and when you tell that to 100,000 of your employees, everytime they book personal air travel, they think, hmmmm, if I can avoid US, I will because I am not allowed to use them at work. Also, the company starts to tighten discretionary travel...a lot of it is perception. Too bad Tempe doesn't get that. This is just J&J, I'm sure they are doing it to many other companies as well.

Travel is booked through corporate travel agent. They know when it is a US flight. The email details flights on UA, AA and DL.

LOL I was thinking the same thing exactly. What I would add to your comment is hats off to USAirways for standing their ground to J&J by realizing at the prices they want to pay they add no value to USAirways.

By the way wheres the J&J board so I can negotiate and rag on them in a public forum too!

Yes, why don't you go find it.

You don't think prices are negotiated with J&J for the products they offer for sale in retail outlets? 🙄

Yes, hooray for US for standing their ground! Keep standing your ground US! Soon, all of your best customers will be gone over nickel and diming West principles. Keep pouring that kool-ade in my cup so that I continue to pay $2300 to SFO and $1700 to LAX and $1000 to MIA and $1300 to DFW without questioning the stupid decisions continued to be made by the great one USAIRWAYS!

Talk about whiners....some of you people better get used to the customer questioning these high fares that get no value in return. Like I said, my transcons, as much as possible, are now on UA while they offer the premium service at the same cost.

And this notion that we should not "rag" on US fares publicly. Get over it! Either stand up behind the high fares that do not have comparable service or SHUT UP. They are your fares. Embarrassed by what you offer for them?

Al Crellin is aware, from my understanding, and will give this his upmost attention. 😉

Perhaps the J & J contract wasn't as profitable as you think...

That's what I think also. One management style I have learned about (and NO IT IS NOT TAUGHT TO US MANAGEMENT-I LEARNED IT FROM A BOOK!) Is that you can't let one employee hold you hostage, meaning if someone is really unhappy and making things miserable and threatens to quit, go ahead and let them quit-they can and will be replaced. BY NO MEANS DOES THIS MEAN TREAT YOUR EMPLOYEES LIKE TRASH! It just means don't let them hold you back from doing what is best for the whole group.

If we won't make the fares cheap enough for J and J, clearly someone who knows more about this than us, can plan on us making more money somewhere else.

Before you all go absolutly crazy on me, think about this, could there be more truth than just what we see?????????
