I love it when a baggage handler or mechanic  thinks he knows more about the market  and can do a better job than someone with an MBA. You ever drive pass OTB everyone in there thinks they have it figured out and they can pick the winners, same thing
And yet, 80% of the mutual funds cannot beat the S&P 500 index fund after fees. Those that beat the S&P 500 are often times assuming more risk, so with higher risk I would expect a higher return.  Don't need an MBA or even a dart board to invest into an index fund.

For the record, my 401 is managed by a multi degreed Professional who's been doing it for 30 years and has great track record, and, most importantly, he's someone I can  Trust.

The IAMPF has already proven to be untrustworthy, unless of course you're weasels, he's good with it, after all, it was all a minor infraction, they paid it all back..., and they'll never do it again, promise.

I have the same list and the IAMNPF and an IRA. Still doesn't change my mind about the plan...

Would much rather roll my accrued amount into one of the other vehicles.
Ok. And that's why you are you and I am I. And if you noticed I wasn't trying to change your mind. I've been speaking MY mind about it.

If I was an expert at the market I wouldn't be using the tools that my 401k provides me and let the "professionals" make the choices for me.

For ME if they screw up I'm not going to be as angry as I would be if I was the one who made the choices and it came up bust.

But I do monitor the performance and call them on occasion. So far, so good.

When did I ever say that I was good with what they did? Man some of you guys again really want to paint a certain picture.

Here let me quote what I've said (In your mind)

"The IAMPF is the GREATEST investment that anyone in the World could ever make. Better than Microsoft, Exxon, IBM, Apple, and Google combined. Boy aren't we all lucky that we might have a chance to jump into that."

Have I got that about right what you "think" I've said?

Nothing wrong with that, but there are a whole host of people here that may be faced with joining it soon-including you. I just want to give my perspective.

On a larger scale, union insistence on keeping anachronistic things like pensions shows just how far out of touch they are with much of today's workforce. That needs to change for everyone's sake...

There is a mindset, my grandfather was a letter carrier during the depression he had a job when everyone else was starving. When it was time to retire he had an income for the rest of his life. If you look at it ,if you live long enough your 401 could run out. Again a mindset

You're right Kev. We need to let all these companies off the hook in providing us with a secure form of retirement. What were we thinking? Companies should have zero obligations after we leave the company after spending most of our lives in their service.

First smart thing they did was doing away with the gold watch. I was ecstatic that AA took away both my Pension and retiree medical. Better that the company is secure rather than me.

And I appreciate all perspectives and take all of them into consideration (When no emotions are attached)

BTW Kev, 700UW is right. The corporations really have done a great job at brainwashing. Now they really must do something about that Social Security entitlement program. These lazy buggers need to learn to stand on their own 2 feet, pull their pants up and WORK. Raise that bar to 80 I say. We're living longer.

No Worldport. I'm still here. Just done with the nonsense on that other thread that always ends up going nowhere. Just not interested in it.

I'm waiting for Friday to get the "official" update from the guys actually in the room.

Don't need fake updates from phantoms.
