I am agreeing with you very much on this issue in overlooking contractual language on sick calls, as I don't trust these Management biscuits. The Membership was promised by the union and this issue would be addressed before the last JCBA, and nothing happened. Sadly, as the policy was retroactively applied, people with sick/late calls for the year prior suddenly found themselves on a Level 3 without prior warnings! How did the union allow this to happen, and better yet, let Management keep the same "flexibility" in the new contract!
Also let me be brutally honest on this matter as our local PHX union representatives consider it a "victory" as someone gets unfairly terminated over sick calls, but "saves" their job by having them issued "just" a Level 3 instead! I have had seen people get terminated because sick calls were placed onto the wrong person with a like name(s), parent died, severe floods, or "unauthorized" early outs from other stations! But hey, the union got their jobs back, but now just need near perfect attendance for the next 12 months to keep it!
