The Red Cross' response:
WASHINGTON, Friday, September 28, 2007 — On September 20, 2007, the American Red Cross, at the request of the State of Louisiana, provided humanitarian aid at ten comfort stations in Jena. The infrastructure of that small town (population 2,850) was overwhelmed by a crowd numbering in the tens of thousands. Businesses reported in advance they would not be open that day. A state of emergency was declared in the parish. Since the Red Cross mission is to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies, our services included basic first aid, along with water and snacks for law enforcement personnel, marchers, community residents and members of the media.

Nearly 200 people received first aid assistance from the Red Cross. According to state police, our presence there may have helped to avert other health emergencies. "The Red Cross was instrumental in providing the humanitarian care, which reduced the number of potential medical emergencies due to heat and dehydration," said Major Frank Vaughn of the Louisiana State Police.

The whole Jena, LA thing is just one big cluster phuck.

First off I think the black community is screwing them selves for insisting that the case against the Jena 6 be dismissed. Seems to be they should be insisting that the 6 be charged with something that fits the crime. To charge them with 2nd degree attempted murder seems completely out of line. It does seem to be quite in line with the way the DA seems to handle things when it comes to how they charge blacks verses whites.

What the black community should also be asking is why the whites who hung the nooses only faced a 3 day suspension and why a white man who brings a shot gun into a convenience store gets off with no charges yet the kids who took the weapon from him are charged with theft.

According to the Chicago Tribune, 16 yeas ago, this community voted to have David Duke as their governor, yet Jena does not have any race issues?

I do not excuse what the Jena 6 did. Hey need to be punished but when whites commit crimes and get minimal penalties and you have a white lady on the news saying that the nooses were “not a big dealâ€￾ what the hell do they expect to happen?

On May 10, police arrested Justin Barker, 17, the white victim of the Dec. 4 beating. He was alleged to have a rifle loaded with 13 bullets stashed behind the seat of his pickup truck parked in the school lot. Barker told police he had forgotten it was there and had no intention of using it.

Why do I get the feeling that had it been one of the Jena 6 with a rifle in their truck that the out come would have been different?

Seems to me the DA’s office in Jena needs to be cleaned out.

The point is that these protesters let the town know in advance that they would not patronize the businesses in Jena. So now, it is the State of Louisiana and the Red Cross' responsibility to give this group water and sports drinks?

They should have held a blood drive while they were there.

One Interesting "twist" was that the mother/father of the kid that got beat, welcomed into their house,(ate at their dinner table etc.) some guy who showed up at their door, offering free legal service/advise.
Seems that this clown was a avowed racist, who sponsers some skinhead group. Next thing you know, he's USING the Jena thing on his web site.
The parents could'nt distance themselves from this guy fast enough !

Yes and it seemed to me, the young black male who asked at the assembly if it was ok for black boys to sit under the tree that was frequented by whites only.
Hows that guy say it? Stupid is as stupid does.

Ought to get him for inciting a riot.Thats what happened.

Please explain how sitting under a tree on public school property which his family paid taxes for is inciting a riot? Your first name wouldn't be "Massa" would it?"

I believe there was some type of statement being made and look what it escalated into.Surely somewhere in your life you thought better of doing something where principle would be better served at another time or place?

No,I go by MUFF DADDY,the Lap Dog.

Yes I have and I regret it to this day. I was sexually harassed at work and did not pursue it. I let her get away with it and subject someone else be subjected to her abuse. Never again.

I am thankful that Rosa Parks, Mr King, Gandhi, Hill, Crystal Lee Jordan and others had the courage to stand up for what they believed in.

If it was their intent to just have equal access to the tree, then they had every right to do so. If they were looking to cause trouble and could not have cared less about access to the tree, then they were indeed wrong.

Sacrificing one principles is never a good thing, expedient perhaps, but always at a price.
