there are lots of a/c maint jobs a&p,av.sm,elect, interior etc. in the pensilvanya ,north carolina ... east coAst corridor, the wages range; start from $20.00 to $32.00 hr. based on experience+medical,vacation,401k match. you may have to buy a camper/trailer and stay away from the wife but it might be healthy for your marriage.
Don't f(*&^)( CRY IF USAIR NULLS CONTRACTS; you ain't losing nothing, after all this cuts the incentive to work for an airline as mechanic is all but eliminated. working in GENERAL AVIATION pays you $ 20.00 to start ,if you get your IA license you will make $ 30.00, its day work ( 9 to 5) weekends off and holidays off with pay.

Pathetic, but I must agree. Not long ago passengers would go on an airline knowing that they have the best of the best taking care of them, now within a few years all they will get is the lowest bidder! I wish these people spouting the wonders of the $40 ticket would understand if flying to FL costs less than an oil change in you car, you have a serious problem. But they wont, the only thing that people in this country seem to understand is the body count. We are witnesses to the downfall of the entire airline industry. And it will not come back untill there is only 1 or two carriers left and then the ticket prices will come up to a level equal to the actual costs involved.

I work in RES but I know a U mechanic who works in CLT but he has been working for some time in INT at Smith Reynolds Airport for Pace Airlines, (part time) and they have offered him a job full time if he wants it. That was probably a smart move on his part since we know not what the future brings. Just want to say that I feel for all the mechanics at U, looks like we we will be outsourced along with lots of those guys. Peace

The exodus has started here at JFK. last week we had two guys get hired on at Con ed, both live out on the Island (Con Ed supplies electricity and steam in NYC) so they are looking at four hours of commuting a day. They dont care, both had over 15 years at AA. They had enough.

While there have always been guys that leave it was usually only those with a little time that did so. You never saw anyone with more than 10 years quit. However thats no longer the case.

We also had two crew cheifs quit and go to JetBlue, along with our QA manager, I dont see that as a good move.

Another crew chief quit and started his own air conditioning business.

We have quite a few more, they have gone on to several things including A Snap-On route, Construction, lawyers office etc. Just about everyone is looking. Most no longer work OT, even though its available-they dont want to be here.

You are so right, not a good job anymore. After 25 years in aviation, furloughed after 15 at US, I have found better jobs outside aviation. Technical jobs, rep. jobs, aviation contractor jobs for the government, there are many oportunities out there just get out and look! If you are not happy at Airways plan and get over it and out to a better life. I want to wish everyone the best of luck, I truly hope that Airways will survive, I have a good number of freinds that work there still. But it looks like comercial airline work is not what it used to be, and may not ever be the lifetime job it was in years past. Anyway, good luck again to all. B)
