I'm not happy about it. No one on my crew is happy about it. No one in the breakrooms seems to be happy about it. Many other employees that I've talked to are not happy about it. The only ones that are happy about this are upper management and the unions upper class. I thought it was funny when I read the informational pamphlet the company put out that it mentioned a few times how the financing was not to supplement AA's high labor costs but said nothing about supplementing piss poor management decsions that keep this company from getting anywhere near the break even point.

I was thinking this morning that it was a shame the rank and file wasn't asked to comment ...

Oh, let the propaganda begin!!! BTW, was the pamphlet signed by Arpey & Little?????

Labor needs to show our disgust while performing our jobs with integrity, professionalism, and TO THE LETTER!!!!!

It's the only way!!!

AMEN!!!!!!!

We Ain't Got the Balls and the company knows it...
performing our jobs with integrity, professionalism, and TO THE LETTER!!!!!

What Balls? It is the law in the first place. If any mechanic is performing in other than way, the authorities need to know. The company at TULE has been pushing the mechanics to follow the manuals to the letter. The shortcuts are gone. if you are not using the manuals to the letter then you are truly unprofessional. Take the time to study Chapter 20.

You can add myself to the list of people who are not happy AA can order aircraft yet can still not understand the importance of a respected, HAPPY workforce.

<_< ------Ken, you of all people should realize that it is not about a "HAPPY" workforce!------ It's all business with them. All just about numbers.------- If the numbers don't add up to what they feel it should, than the only thing to do is "tweak" the numbers anyway they can, to conform to what they feel is exceptable. ------- If that doesn't make labor "HAPPY", oh well!------So be it!!! -------So much for "Company loyalty"!!! Because that's a one way street!!!

Ok, so if AA were actually shelling out billions and billions for planes I would be upset too. But these are finances to the point that there's no cash paid out until the planes are delivered. And once we put them in service we will start saving money on operations immediately. So really this just saves the company money.

Isn't not as if AA is writing a check to them instead of to us.

... but eventually, Flatline, they will be writing that check and not to us.

... and understanding the value of a workforce not demanding one's Hari Kari, my good man, is the basic difference between a CPA/beancounter and a real businessman, of which we have none in attendance.

They can deduct from the business taxes all manner of employee expenses but putting forth the simple human respect we've asked for, aside from being a non-deductable item for tax purposes, seems far beyond the grasp of the Centrepork infestation - they feel their power and influence cannot be maintained if they give an inch - that's their misdirected pride and egotisitical values talking, not reality.

Every bit of this nonsense could have been easily avoided had the little boys on power and ego trips taken a different attitude towards their people in the beginning, and I'm not talking simply about money and benefits.

And it is a check they have to write. Part of that check will of course be offset by fuel and maintenance savings. The rest is an investment in fleet renewal. What's the alternative, fly the MD80s until the engines refuse to start?

I remember a few years ago NWA management was crowing about how much money they were making with the paid for DC9's, how they owned them outright, and even though they were fuel and maintenance pigs, they turned a profit.

The AA MD80 fleet aren't even close to being as bad as those DC9 were, and they gotta be paid for by now.

Must be a "very exclusive" deal Centerpork received to off set the billions in lease payments that have to eventually be made to Boeing and Scare Bus.

I'm sure you'll be filling us in on the Big Picture.

The two situations are hardly comparable. Northwest was crowing about its paid-for DC-9s when fuel was a mere $0.60/gal, not fuel at $3.00/gal, five times the price.

The new 738s currently being delivered are saving AA enough money on fuel to make their lease payments. Back in the mid-1990s (when NW was crowing), the fuel savings could not have made the payments on new planes. With fuel five times more expensive now (and interest rates at historic lows), new planes can pay for themselves.

If fuel were $0.60/gal again, then AA would not be pulling out the stops to replace its fuel hogs.

If gasoline hits $25/gal, then buying a new fuel efficient car will be a wise move by you and everyone else. Jet fuel at $3.00/gal makes new fuel efficient planes a good deal. If fuel goes higher (and stays higher), then Arpey and Horton will be lauded as visionaries. If fuel drops to $1.00/gal and stays there, Arpey and Horton will be the goats.

When fuel is cheap, keep driving (or flying) old gas hogs, as the fuel savings will never pay for a new vehicle. At high fuel prices, revisit the numbers.

I understand that for many bass-fishing residents of Tulsa (with big new trucks and big new truck payments), the calculations can be very difficult; a look at the parking lots confirms that many people have fallen prey to the siren song of Ford, GM and Dodge and bought hug trucks with huge engines that keep them indebted to the man.
