lhr is i think 28 km to thenorth of lgw

LHR is a subway ride into the city. LGW is a train ride on the Gatwick to Victoria Station train then a subway ride. The Gatwick Express is about $52.00 round trip in second class.

ABE -- the new international gateway for USair!

No congestion, plenty of available labor w/o earrings and the baggage system works!

Thanks for all the smart comments..but I still dont know where LHR is and I am a f/a..we dont know how to work Shares(well, most of us dont). I really dont care to ever know either.. So...where is LHR?

London Heathrow.

Well they couldn't fly to LHR from PHX even if they wanted to - No capable aircraft. PHL has had 2 daily BA non-stops for many years, so that would be heavy competition - particularly the O&D. CLT has no LHR access. The advantage with US is of course, *Alliance connections. I think it could be a toss up between PHL and CLT if US is only able to get a single flight (Slot). Head to head competition with BA could be a huge mistake. Probably the only way US could make it work out of PHL, is either with almost exclusive connecting traffic, or to offer a much better Envoy on the route with concentrated *A connections in London. If they can get 2 Flights, then almost for certain it would be PHL and CLT. Still, from this Poll voting standpoint, I think US would pick PHL if for no other reason than to supplement their International Gateway with a LHR flight - regardless of economics.

PHL can get access to LHR, as its a Bermuda II city. But AA and UA currently can operate the route. I don't understand why UA doesn't fly the route, but they most likely wouldn't be able to codeshare. BA flys 2x daily and AA can't codeshare or gain Advantage Miles on the route. If US Flies PHX-LGW, BA would have to shift their flight to LGW. I think that would cause BA to possibly bow out of the route. And then again I am not sure how AF route does as to CDG-PHL, but that one surprises the heck out of me.

I hope we are not counting on connections wiht Star Alliance because I have heard rumors of great discontent coming from them....they were already upset when we put 2 FRA flts on in the summer(a direct competition to LH..a founder partner)then came the 757 mess to various cities with no real F class...and now the qik/shares idiocy which doesnt work for intl flts..Sabre used to favor all US flts in avail and Star Alliance flts... I wouldnt be at all suprised if they voted not to continue our membership

Officially there are 3 flts from PHL-London and there used to be 4 seasonal. You are telling me that the pax US' flies on its PHL-LGW currently would suddenly disappear or go to BA if US were to start PHL-LHR, don't think so.

The 2nd PHL-FRA flt is one of the most profitable flts, don't see LH upgrading their A343 to a 744 or adding a 2nd daily to the route. If the demand is there mise well take advantage of it. US is actually providing more lift into LH's network where people can connect to a multitude of destinations

My question is, since US can codeshare with LH on flights across the Pond, wouldn't you think that we'd be able to use this more wisely?

I know LH is putting their "Cattle car" A343 on the FRA-PHL route this summer. And with US fighting with PHL for Int'l gates, make the last FRA flight leave after 10pm, that will open up the 8pm for another europe flight, 4p 6p and 8p is roughly what they have now, the 6p flight being the LH. This also would let some from the West Coast depart on the afternoon PHL bank for the FRA flight after 10p.

Honestly I can't respond because I really don't understand what your reply has to do with my post.

Several years ago and it continues today, UA set up ideal PHL connections for their LHR flights out of IAD. AA flew non-stop from PHL to LHR for about a year after aquiring TWA. They then pulled a fast one and transfered the authority to DFW. AF does very well on PHL-CDG and in fact upgraded from a 333 to a 343 last year. Why would it surprise you? I mean if one had to choose between AF and US, which would they most likely pick?
