Almost every city out of DFW has at least one cancelled flight today.

Well the fact that DFW is having freezing precipitation, might be a more valid reason for cancelling flights this morning. Especially flights that were FULLY crewed. DFW cannot handle harsh winter weather operations, they lack the manpower on the ramp and deicing equipment for this type of weather.

Agreed but why only S80 flights?

This has nothing to do with crewing -- sleet started falling at 0600, and we're supposed to get an accumulation of either ice or snow this afternoon. Three inches of snow already on the ground near Ardmore (just north of the TX/OK border).

Also, cancellations are mainly S80's because that's the bulk of DFW's morning operation right now, but there are some 738 cancels as well. SOC is still working afternoon cancels.

Maybe because of heavy loads, and the fact that the S80 carries fewer passengers than the 737/757/767/777 that also fly into DFW?

Eric, I know, I have been commuting around the metroplex this morning. I am not talking about crewing the flights tho, I am talking about the lack of ramp crews to man both loading, cleaning and deicing the full complement of scheduled flights that DFW normally has.

<_< I believe in cases like this, STL would be a lodgical alternative! I realize it couldn't handle the volume of DFW, but it could take some of the pressure! Provided they're not socked in also!

Well, in the sleepy little college town of Denton, we have blankets of white everywhere and the roads are starting to get iced over.

Pilot manning had absolutley nothing to do with it - just DFW's inability to deice in a timely manner. SOC would have knocked out most of, if not all the F100 flights if they were still around.

Extra sections are planned to SLC, DEN, SFO and LAX for this afternoon/tonight to help move the disrupted pax. DFW domestic is in good shape for f/a's as well.

Numerous sick calls by DFW rampers, however. It's not like it's a freaking ice storm out there or anything, just light snow. 🙄

I would also think that the S80's have more frequencies and tend to fly shorter distances than other A/C so it's easier to cut a few out of the schedule to ease deicing and traffic delays.

I believe the bulk of the DFW F/A bidsheet is S80.
