Had codeshare flight on Cathay Pacific with an AA flt number. Tried to do an electronic checkin and check seat etc, with Cathay, but NO NO NO. Since I had an AA codeshare ticket I have to check in at the airport. Cathay rez doesn't work Sundays either. Tried to check in on the AA site. NO NO NO. Tried to call AA Rez and got 15 minutes of scratchy warbling and dragging elevator music until I couldn't stand it anymore and hung up.

What crap service from both these airlines.

From aa.com website...

You can use Flight Check-In if all of the following apply

1. You have an AAdvantage number and AA.com password, OR you know the name and record locator of the passenger.

2. You are checking in for flights on American Airlines, American Eagle, AmericanConnection® or a carrier with which we have an electronic ticketing agreement. However, the first flight for which you are checking in must be operated by American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection.
3. You are using a domestic electronic ticket (including electronic tickets issued by travel agencies or other online sources).

4. Your flight departs in less than 24 hours but more than 1 hour.

5. You are booked on a reservation that only contains flights within the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii), Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

To put into a different prospective, winglet,

"CASE CLOSED" !!!!!!!!!

NH/BB's

AA sells tickets under it's flight number, then you can't check in on the computer because it's the flight is operated by Cathay. And if you go to Cathay, you can't check in because you bought the ticket from AA.

The case is closed alright. Crap service from both airlines.

I think you have to check in for international flights at the airport because your travel documents have to be verified. Airlines cannot issue you a boarding pass until they have verified your passport/visa information.

I think they also have to ask you whether you know if anyone has put anything in your luggage without your knowledge.

S80dude is correct, you need to check in for international flights cause doc's need to be checked, if AA was to allow you to go to your destination without proper docs AA gets a whopper of a fine and you get sent back to where you came from at AA's expense. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

As I said earlier,.............."CASE CLOSED" !!!!!!!!

I've been able to do seat selection when I had a rez through Cathay and not a stupid code share. With a AA flight number you can't do it. Of course you always have to go to the ticket counter to check in again and get a doc check, but you should be able to do a seat selection.

As I said before, the case is closed and both airlines seem to like to piss off customers.

The fact that we have published rules on the website regarding these flights does not suit you. If I were you I would fly someone else in the future.

I feel bad for the OP. Lousy customer service? I find that calling (800)843-6200 has always yielded excellent service for me. For almost a year now, calling the VIP Connection desk has produced even better results.

Gotta check in at the airport? Oh, the horror. 😀

Yea, check in at the airport and get a middle seat between two fat guys for 16 hours on the LA to HKG flight. That is horror. Believe me, I would book another airline except my company does the booking and goes for the cheapo carriers.

Cathay Pacific is widely considered one of the two best airlines in world.

That is really offensive. Do you feel you have some sort of entitlement that keeps you out of a middle seat? Or should rows now only be assigned by weight? Only one pax with no sharp edges per row. My suggestion is that you pony up the difference between your coach fare and first class so that you won't be "bothered" by the riff raff. I suppose someone else should have been given your middle seat so that YOU could sit elsewhere. Get to the airport earlier for more efficient check in. Traveling Intn, you're going to have to show the "goodies" so that means an earlier arrival. ps I'm certain the two "fat guys" were not thrilled with your skinny butt stuffed in the middle. So there.

The lousy customer service is because he didn't get his way. Such is life. Grow up and act like an adult.
