Love those hybrids

You just can't help yourself and stop spreading misinformation, can you?

Yeah you're right......

I like their 3000 foot stack that craps on their neighbors downwind to this day.......

I like the color of the lakes and ponds around these facilities...they have that funny off

green color that you see around the Detroit area.

Press Release from PollutionWatch, Toronto, Canada

PollutionWatch web site ranks pollution from mining sector across Canada

Inco Limited holds the top spot on the list of the biggest polluters in the metal mining sector, released today by Environmental Defence Canada. The list is based on pollution data collected by the federal government. Inco is by far the worst mining polluter in Canada, releasing 704,808 kg of poisonous heavy metals in 2001 from three facilities - 621,724 kg alone coming from its Central Mills facility located in Copper Cliff, Ontario near Sudbury.

"The amount of pollution from Inco's mining facilities is more than double that of the second highest mining polluter in Canada," said Dr. Rick Smith, Executive Director, Environmental Defence Canada. "Inco produces nearly three times as much nickel as its competitor Falconbridge, but over 13 times more pollution. Clearly, Inco is anything but a responsible corporate citizen."

Clean and Green....you kill me......still looks like a barren moonscape to this day Sweetie. And

they fixed their pollution problem by releasing it higher in the air......real neighborly people.

Seems to me that there is a contingent of people (HERE) that want to stick it to people that chose Hybrids over regular cars... why is that? Here you argue that the manufacturing of a portion of parts that go into a Prius is creating localized pollution. Ok, so why not go after the supplier of the part, and not the person who choses to purchase an environmentally friendly vehicle?

Because they make the assumption that everyone who buys a Prius is concerned about their "carbon footprint". That never crossed my mind when purchasing the Prius. Doesn't matter though, there are other sites where I am told "A Yaris gets about that much mileage and costs less". Now while that might be true, I would be hard pressed to haul my two 75 pound yellow labradors to the park for their run. I kind of figure that I'm saving money because I choose to fold down the rear seats and put the dogs back there instead of opting for an H2 to do the same thing.

Ummm, maybe looking for the 'TRUTH' past the hype? 🙄

Naw, can't be anything like that. 😛

The "truth" is this - in the 3 years I have owned my Prius, I have yet to spend $30 to fill it up. The "truth" is that this fillup will hold me for 2 weeks. The "truth" is that I could care less about my "carbon footprint"...only that I'm trying to do my part to leave a little oil for my kid when she gets to be my age.

Huh? Why are you blasting him for making a smart economic choice??? Perhaps if more people considered choices like that, they wouldn't be facing foreclosure today.

Selfish? For wanting to SAVE some of our resources for future generations? Cheap? Gosh, on other boards I've been lambasted for "wasting" the extra cost of the Prius versus a "normally aspirated" vehicle.

If thats pointed at me.....I simply found it interesting that theres much more to consider other than gas and carbon when buying a supposedly 'fuel efficient/eco friendly' vehicle.I also don't quite remember naming anyone in particular or was intending on doing so.

Well intended people in a rush to cure the CLIMATE CRISIS can be actually fomenting the dilemma due to a lack of knowledge on the subject.

I do find your use of the phrase "localized pollution" slightly amusing.Localized as in the planet?

Edit:Are the motor vehicle companies actually trying to save the planet or are they selling a product to a specific market?

Thanks

You made my point.

I live in CA and we will do 'anything' other than what is 'right' to preserve our 'Green-ness'
Look at the wind farms, is this 'cost effective'?
God help us if we build a nuke plant but having these monstrous, ugly wind generators that are more expensive to maintain than the power generated is insanity.

So, more than likely, we will build 'more' 🙄

Here's a nice article, with links to other articles from a nice left wing magazine. Totally disregard any comments about greenhouse gasses - read some of the articles. At least they do more than propose "drill more oil here" as the future of energy in the United States.

If you live in California, why not put solar panels on your home and "sell" excess energy back to the grid? I'm pretty sure California has done this for quite some time...Solar panels soak up sun while you're not home to use it, and your meter runs "backwards" as the excess energy goes to the grid. When you are home and start tapping into your solar supply or the electricity grid, you're already at an advantage since you've "sold" energy earlier in the day.

All of California is not always sunny (overcast/FOG). I live on the peninsula and for $80K all I'll get is maintenance fees for a dynamic technology that will be obsolete in 5 years (if not sooner). The time to build nuclear power plants was ten years ago. Instead of trying to save the one eyed newt, people should have voted for people and some species have to die for it. Plain and simple.

Have you seen this? Global rice shortage
