What's new

M&E reductions announced

So are you guys not getting another 767 line to replace the 777?
NO. The line referred to was to be a 767 repair line to address the corrosion at sta434. We were to start that in sept replacing the stringers in that area along with some pylon work. Besides I`m telling you now the boss LIED to us and will lie to you too.

A North American 767 is all that's in their. The former Delta overhaul hangar at one time I was told had 1,500 workers in it.
Thats correct. I just talked to a buddy over there. One big empty hangar. 🙁

Hello MCI, we heard today after losing our 777, that they were offering you guys the vbr. Any truth to that? Did they open the "vbr' window? We have quite a few guys ready to go when/if it is offered here.

<_< ------- That's right! But their preconditions have so many if's, and's, or but's, that I feel they will ration them out like candy. I hear the bean counters are getting together this next week to figure out where, and how much of the work will go where, and how many people, at each base, they can afford to let go without there being a stampede to get to the door!!! Window? No window set yet! -------- And yes I'm considering it! Along with quit a few here at MCI. By the way, I understand that we can collect unemployment here in Missouri also! Just one more reason to look close at this!

Sounds to me like they might move the 767 lines to the Delta hangar, hopefully not disrupting to many jobs. Just sounds weird to run (3) 767 lines at AFW and leave 4 bays open???

Buddy of mine said the manager told them tonight all the 777's are going to Tulsa very soon.....

All we can hope for is that enough amt's take the vbr so it could minimize forced layoffs and the disruption of families.

Yes you`ve got all the 777 starting in sept. Now what sense does it make to move 767 from afw to dwh (delta hangar)? What sense does it make to have our maintenance spread out all over the place? As it stands now afw will have 3 767 lines bays 2,3 and 6 and the 767 repair line on bay 5. Leaving bay 4 ,formally 777, and bay 1 our drop in dock. I can make the arguement to move the mci work to here at afw and dwh. Then a large part of our maintenance would be consolidated at our largest hub.

We own DWH and still lease AFW to my understanding, maybe that is it.

How many 767 lines and what work is done on them in MCIE?

well with respect my info says we have a 3 year lease at dwh. What those terms are I do not recall. In addition to the docks at afw we also have over 70 shops.
I`ve never been to mcie so I can not comment as to what they have going up there. I believe it is 1 767 C check, some mod work and cfm-56 engines. I think I read they have some md-80 B check too.
To be honest the spectre of afw closing while mcie remains has most of us pretty twisted up. My opinion ,for what its worth, is we should have jettisioned all things twa along time ago. Now we have the feeling that tul and mcie have banded together to absorb "our" work. I was laid off in 1994 and bumped into afw. Ever since then we`ve heard "afw is closing" or "fedex is buying afw". I guess I don`t get the "thrill" or whatever it is you people get from "closing afw".
Whatever happens I`ll take my 18 years and go to dfw or back to tulsa it does not matter to me. I for one will be glad when this all shakes out. BTW what is a "good area" to live in tulsa now? I was up there for some dwms stuff a few months ago and it was a bit different than I remember.

I used to work in AFW in the shops. Can you be more specific without listing them all? I remember when I was there some 11 years ago there was seat shops, galley/lav shop, slide shop, coffee pot/oven shop and an interior shop? What am I missing?
Broken Arrow, Owasso, Sand Springs are all growing and all have nice areas to live in.

<_< ------ dvlhog212, believe me, I know how your feeling! When they took the 737 operation away from us, it was a slap in the face! Then it was common knowledge that MCI was working on borrowed time! Have you ever been here at MCI? As far as size, only TUL is bigger. As far as age, TUL is also older. And the kicker is AA's getting the whole thing for almost nothing! ------- Let me ask you this. How far is it from AFW to DWH? Couldn't most that got layed off at AFW just transfer to DWH?
