IAM Statement on US Airways’ Operations

Robert Roach, Jr., General Vice President of Transportation for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) today issued the following statement regarding baggage service disruptions at US Airways’ Philadelphia hub over the Christmas holiday:

“The 4,200 IAM-represented US Airways Fleet Service employees, when provided proper equipment and reasonable working conditions, are among the finest and most productive working people in the United States.

In a meeting requested by the leadership of the Machinists Union last February, the IAM advised US Airways management that its Philadelphia hub operation and facilities were in urgent need of attention.

Based on our members input, the IAM offered to play a major positive role in transforming the Philadelphia hub into a safe, efficient operation.

Management rebuffed the IAM’s offer as "worthlessâ€￾. CEO Bruce Lakefield stated that he “was not going to turn Philadelphia over to the employeesâ€￾. The Machinists Union’s offer to assist management in turning Philadelphia into a premiere hub for US Airways still stands.

Furthermore, the IAM renews our call for an industry summit where labor, management and government officials can jointly review and resolve the many problems that plague the transportation industry.â€￾

So the IAM wants to play the same game as Ms. Xidas in PIT. Thanks so much for being helpful and productive.

On the other hand, a big thanks and atta-boy to CLT AFA Local Pres Mike Flores. He was on Channel 9 in CLT last night from home. He and his wife went out and worked on Christmas when they were both off in order to add a small bit of help to the situation. His response to those that called in sick was, "What did you hope to accomplish?"

That is leadership. Ms. Xidas and the IAM and many in CCY should take note of what it looks like.

Translation:

The IAM wants to continue to hold USAirways hostage to archaic, non productive work rules and featherbed unneccesary jobs at unsustainable labor costs in order to support the dues flow to the IAM at large.

I say U can do it without the current membership. Hope the judge agrees. To tear tags off luggage and other horrors just goes to show the class your fleet workers present.

This statement is a joke. Do they really think the average flyer is that stupid to believe this heap of cow s#it?

"a big thanks and atta-boy to CLT AFA Local Pres Mike Flores. He was on Channel 9 in CLT last night from home. Thousands of U's personnel were working Christmas and Christmas Eve...Thanksgiving, etc.
Wow, this is so admirable. If U can get a few more volunteers then L&B won't see any loss in their stock options...isn't this great? And the judge will be so impressed! Has anyone heard whether or not the payroll will be issued on Jan. 7th? Or has EVERYONE just donated their last two weeks for a dying cause?

WHAT IS TONY A'S OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THIS WHOLE DEBACLE ? SINCE HE SEEMS TO RUN THE SHOW THERE IN PHL ?
