MBJ strike?

How could anyone cross a picket line. That's the whole problem with this company , no one sticks together. If all work groups would come together and treat each other with respect , it would make things easier .This East/West thing is a joke , the common enemy is the company , not the workers !

That would not be the general work ethic there based on my observation.

Based on your one visit as a tourist. In other words, you don't know what you are talking about regarding our station. They are excellent.

The agents who went are most certainly not scabs, not a single one of them, they are well respected and top notch agents who thought they could help keep the operation running and who can blame them for wanting to hang out in MoBay? I don't know what the situation was, that's why I asked, but these are not the type of people to sell out fellow employees for a fun trip. There must be another reason the company would send them out like that, I was just wondering if anyone knew, I didn't intend to get everyone all pissed - - that is really hard not to do on here though

with all due respect 😉
Let me educate you, when a group of employees are on strike, and workers go there to perform the work that is struck, makes them a scab.

Anyone who is well respected would not cross a picket line and perform work that is on strike.

From Webster's:

a: a contemptible person b (1): a worker who refuses to join a labor union (2): a union member who refuses to strike or returns to work before a strike has ended (3): a worker who accepts employment or replaces a union worker during a strike

757,
I'm guessing if the pilots were to say go on strike for what ever reasons . the rest of the airline would have to HONOR you

or we would be scaps. I love when you guys bash other work groups but expect the rest of us to step up to attention when your

group is having issues against the company. Just shows your arrogant s

How about we all go to PHX/PHL/CLT during a rally when employees are picketing to pick up the slack orieleman....when you yourself are fighting for justice. No sweat, we will just help the company and scab on all of you.

Put things into perspective here, employees at MBJ must have a solid reason why they are striking. A job at our company on this island is probably a good, solid living. There is a REASON why the employee group is upset. Your response....go work against their mission. Maybe you would, I most certaintly wouldn't. Shame on anyone from the US going over there to cross their lines. UNION means we are TOGETHER. The temptation of a trip to MBJ is a lame excuse to cross into dangerous waters that don't include US.

That's intelligent. If the cart was leading the horse, your airline would have been grounded a long time ago.

First of all, each employee group plays an integral part of the airline's operation. However, Pilots & AMTs are highly trained in a specific area, and are in much higher need of union representation to protect their jobs. Their skill set does not reach across other industries. On the other hand, a CS agent has a skill set that can be used in many industries: Hotels, insurance, banking, virtually any industry that offers "customer service". I'll bet the employees that work in many or most of those industries aren't unionized, so tell me, why are they at the airlines? .... Think about it... because they rode in on the union wave with the others! So in this case - like the rest of the world, I think if you don't like your CS job or the way your company treats you as a CS agent, you should make your way on out and use your skill set elsewhere. You'll be much happier in the end!

If you HATE the company, consider it the "enemy", want to work against it, for your own sake MOVE ON ALREADY!!! Besides, the more people that feel this way, the less likely the company can stay alive, so you'll be all looking for jobs anyway. Might as well get ahead of the curve.

This is the only thing about a strike in Jamaica I could find doing a quick search. Not really sure what it was all about.

Based on your one visit as a tourist. In other words, you don't know what you are talking about regarding our station. They are excellent.

Did I say I was only talking about your station? I was talking about the observed general work ethic in that country--observed by someone (me) who spent a lot of his career studying work forces and habits in various countried and situations. Unbunch your panties and go take a Valium.

I repeat, Jamaica is on the list of places I have been, and it is also on the list of places I have no desire to ever go to again.

I believe the US ground staff is contracted in MBJ.

And also, lets not forget about "foreign" unions and how they're MUCH different than unions here. The Jamaica strike may be more of a last minute work action... In the states, I believe you have to give proper notice before any work action (correct??) I'll find out a lil later today, having lunch with the Air Jamaica manager today (well, maybe.. lol)

How often do strikes happen in France at the airport? monthly? weekly?

Seg you are correct, US only has 2 or possibly 3 direct employees in MBJ and they are in the CS function. Station Manager and 1 or 2 Supervisors. Everything else is contracted. I alsoam with you on the foreign union thing....would one suggest that each time the French air traffic controllers go on strike for a day because someone passed gas that unions worldwide should honor that strike?

Does Jamica allow workers to work in their country without some sort of visa?

Are you saying as a card carrier in good standing union member you would go and cross a picket line in do struck work
If you think you are immune form job replacements think again your 75 can be flown by a lot of pilots. (HP pilots can refresh your memory) AMT aka AP mechanics and helpers are available as well
So your logic is a hard sell to solid union member. Replacement workers are a fact in any union environment there are THINGS that can be introduce to make it very difficult for replacement workers. I suggest you learn! If you don’t like your union job I suggest you find a non-union job

Okay, apparently they didn't strike, the situation wasn't hostile and the employees basically got a free vacation - -

I don't even know what side of the fence to stand on because I don't want the operation all jacked up but I wouldnt want to cross a picket line either. I would LOVE a free vacation though because I put up with way too much crap. 🙁

I'm just glad our agents are safe, I know the agents we sent aren't scabs and the operation wasn't really disrupted.

I realize it might have been a waste of company funds, but I think it would have been more expensive if the operation went all haywire due to a strike.

I wasn't offered the opportunity to go, so I can't really put myself in their place or judge them for going to perform "struck work"

FWIW, I'm glad it all worked out for everyone.

If you perform struck work and cross a picket line your a scab.

That was their intent.

Just hope the CWA never goes on strike, those members will run over you to work.
