Meeting in Phx with Roach?

Watch several gates load and the gate agents were very helpful, courteous and basically looking like they were enjoying there jobs. This was good to see.

Boarded a 319 on time and was offered a predeparture drink. I thought the west did not do that.... Had a great A F/A who you could tell also enjoyed her job. She was personable and greeted warmly all who boarded. All in all I was very impressed. After reading some of the posts here I was not expecting the great service and employees.

So for those of you on the west I tip my hat to you.....

Thanks for the kind words and note of appreciation. This Forum in particular has given many a bad impression of the "Westies" before anyone has had an opportunity to see us in action or meet us in person.

By no means are we perfect, but I believe it is the front line employees of the West side that has kept this airline in the skies all these years - just like those on the East side. Combined, we are a class act - just as we were at our respective previous carriers.

After all my years with AWA, and now US Airways, I still love my job as much as the day I started and appreciate every customer that walks in the doorway of my aircraft.

Thanks for flying with US and I hope to the chance to serve you personally on a future flight. I'll even stock some extra chocolate Biscoffs for you!

OK there. BBQ lesson #1, you have essentially 4 styles of BBQ.

Texas Style - usually done dry with beef, pork, turkey or saugage. BBQ sauce is usually added to taste. I prefer the brisket at Rudy's in Austin. BBQ'e Turkey breast at Dickies in Irving TX is also quite tasty as is their Saugage

Memphis style - Nice and gooey with Molasses based sauce, Corky's is world renown and there is another place in Memphis that slips my mind

NC Style - Vinegar based sauce, sandwichs are usually served with cole slaw as a topping. Our Primary BBQ vendor at Grey Fox Bluegrass festival make a very nice NC style BBQ, He's at a lot of events. Dale Bishops Pig Pickin' BBQ

KC/StLouis style- Never really had this style although I did get my sister two racks of St louis style for a present and they were smoked AND dry rubed and looked great.

To me BBQ is like sex, the worst I ever had was still good.
Does'nt South Carolina have their own style of BBQ? I think they have a mustard based type, though probably not a popular as the others mentioned...

Brisket
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Brisket is a cut of meat from the breast or lower chest. While all meat animals have a brisket, the term is most often used to describe beef or veal. The beef brisket is one of the eight beef primal cuts. According to the Random House Dictionary of the English Language, Second Edition, the term derives from the Middle English "brusket" which comes from the earlier Old Norse "brjōsk", meaning cartilage.

Brisket can be cooked many ways. Popular methods in the U.S. Southern States include smoking and marinating the meat and cooking slowly, not directly over the hot coals or wood. Additional basting of the meat is often done during the cooking process, however most of the tenderness from this normally tougher cut of meat comes from the fat cap often left attached to the brisket...

Brisket may or may not end up as a barbecue meat.

"Jewish" style = brisket!

I'm looking forward to learning first-hand about NC barbecue on Saturday night. Thanks for the tutorial!

The complete afternoon's schedule is:

lunch (for those that arrive early enough) - 12:30ish at a local restaurant (dutch treat, I assume)

dinner (Carter Brother's) - gather at 6-6:30 to eat at 6:30

after dinner - drinks at a local establishment

Jim

ps - although I gave a link to the menu, I believe dinner is a buffet with a fixed menu consisting of 2-3 entrees.

Yes, dinner main courses are some chopped BBQ, BBQ chicken and Rotisserie chicken with all the fixin's.

And for any who are tempted to join us Saturday, the lunch bunch will be at least 3 folks who are regular posters on this board. Well, one who posts very regularly...

Where are ya'll meeting for after dinner drinks?

I will try to pull this thread together with a quick note. We all enjoyed meeting each other in PHX and did miss Art AND talked about many of the posters on the board. As I only discovered the board after the announcement of the US/HP merger L4P and HP FA did a great job of filling me in on the history behind FFOCUS and other things that sometimes I feel like I am missing. Boeing Boy, I will not be able to come to your BBQ and as you can tell by my "name" I have lots of responsibilities that dont allow me to take part in some of the festivities(due to time constraints) but I know you will have a great turnout and lots of fun. PitBull, I hope you know you have quite a number of fans and am flattered that L4P even dared put me in your league. To L4P, Hp fa and Art and anyone else who would like to gather at some time lets try to arrange more "meetings" hopefully in the PHX area. I will try to clear my schedule if I know you are here. Again, thanks for the good time, conversation and yes, the COFFEE!

Oops, I almost forgot, L4P, I will get you back on US someday. Hopefully, soon! Mama

GSO Marriott sports bar. Our group will be easy to find... just ask for the group that needs the green limes.

Carter Brother's does NOT (thanks l4pi) serve adult beverages... it concentrates on good BBQ.

Biscoffs Mama.....Chocolate Biscoffs

Speaking of which... got a supply of those for Saturday night. YUM YUM!
