Merger Partner - ALL US Merger Talk Here

Where are you hearing that???

We have to have first class for the Star Aliance...

won't happen.... we have had first class service since when????? 1908 The old PI days.... first is here to stay

sorry to bust your bubble....

How about ( as was suggested by a mx today ) if WN flys domestic routes and US international/carribean and First Class stays ?

Actually, from what I have heard, you DON'T need to have First Class to be in Star.

I believe there are a couple of carriers who don't.
Correct. Examples: Ted, LH intra-Europe service, every other carrier intra-Europe service.

I don't know why people keep perpetuating the myth that Star requires First class.

There's no such requirement for Star Alliance membership. 🙄

Now as far as the silly WN rumor, did anyone notice that the article also calls UAL the nation's fourth largest airline, and claim's United and Continental's merger in 2001 didn't happen? Not much of a source.

You have to admit it's not as tired as the US/UAL rumor. Something different, for a change.

It should give the pilots, at both airlines, something to talk about for a day or two.

NWA-Delta pilot clash blocking merger
This deal is a far cry from falling apart. They haven't come this close only to let it fall apart now. With MAJOR raises across the board, plus equity and seats on the board of the new company, and the potential for growth, this is not going to just evaporate over night. ALPA has not seen this kind of leverage for a long time and all the pilots see the real opportunity here. It also occurred to me that they may be holding out to see if there is any more money the company is willing to throw at them to get them to work this last issue out. They are playing it very smart.

As a side note, a UA/CO merger that is sure to follow will result in similar gains for the pilots. With ALPA set to also get a raise in dues with the increase in pilot salaries across 4 pilot groups, it will make the possibility of losing one group (aka US Airways) even less painful financially.

The last time your united pilots tried to take advantage of a merger and gain contract leverage was the 2000 Usair/United attempt. As I recall it was known to airline passengers as the Summer of Hell. alpa (airline pilots association) had the leverage then. Why do you think (as you allude to in your post above) it will work now? Your company, United Airlines paid the ransom then, it will not now.

SUMMER OF HELL EXACTS HEAVY TOLLS article click here.

The confidence you exude in alpa is not shared by your "brothers" at Continental Airlines.

Click here for the non alpa Continental Pilot web site.

Are you addressing the fact to your alpa "brothers and sisters" that there will be thousands of pilot furloughs due to right sizing after the merger?

I don't think the Star agreement requires that EVERY a/c have a F/C section. TED and LH intra-Europe are not "members" of the Star Alliance. They are a part of a member airline, United and Lufthansa--both of which offer F/C service.

Delta, Northwest on verge of a merger

"Analysts believe the next possible combination could involve United Airlines owner UAL Corp., the nation's fourth largest, and No. 6 Continental Airlines Inc. Southwest Airlines Co. reportedly is considering a merger with US Airways Group Inc., leaving only AMR Corp.'s American Airlines without a major merger partner."

Mr. US320, you are reaching so far on this one, you're giving yourself a weggie.
OH so Trippler is an aviation expert and if he makes an outlandish merger prediction then it MUST be so?? Are you JOKING? The guy is travel agent who got quoted a few times and now he's an expert on all things airline.

I'll make a prediction: U and LUV will merge when George W.'s face is on Mt. Rushmore.

Another blathering of useless emotional garbage from a self proclaimed oracle.

Maybe you should become informed of current events before you speculate. All you have to do is look at what is being negotiated at DL and NW. 30% raises, equity, furlough protection, growth potential, work rules, etc. (how's that loa 93 working out for ya?) The only thing holding it up is a small group of senior NW pilots who want to staple the Delta pilots. Plus the union trying to extract a bit more from the company.

Plus DL has already said that no hubs will close and they are not looking to reduce capacity or furlough. So try again oh wise one. And try not to live in the past. (Do you drive your car looking out the small back window too? )

Just FYI...the aviation "expert" named Trippler quoted in the article as "not being surprised by a WN/LCC merger" is a travel AGENT. He is a talking head on CNN who tells you on Friday before Thanksgiving that it is too late to get cheap tickets for the Thanksgiving holiday and you had better plan to get to the airport earlier than usual. Duh!

How this makes him competent to comment on mergers and acquisitions escapes me.
