HHmmmmm...I seem to remember that nwa had a very good engine shop in Atlanta, GA. nwa in their finite wisdom decided that the ATL maintenance base was not a profit center and it would be better to close the base. 1400 jobs lost and bid out. Countless lives disrupted and for what? nwa could have been the premier US based repair station for the JT8. As long as these engines keep pushing planes there is going to be an overhaul market for them. Maintenance facilities in Mexico and South America can't possibly handle the load. Now, we have Delta Airlines finally figuring that out. When is nwa going to take a hint? Too late I fear. The ATL hangar is just a gutted shell. nwa still has to pay for it however so it still belongs to them. That base could still be open AND making money. They could have been doing third party overhauls to airframes AND engines when the nwa fleet wasn't filling the hangar. Poor planning, Even poorer future vision, and Doug Steenland and his STUPID plan to reduce the workforce and get rid of the AMFA. Congradulations Delta...for coming to your senses.
