From webcast, 6 EMB-190s to replace 6 737s in first half of 2008. Great.

It's not all that bad...at least the income gap between Group II and the EMB rates isn't as large under LOA 93 as it would be with a joint contract.

NOTHING is growth. This company has not the desire or vision to introduce 80 airplanes worth of new flying. At least these are staffed by mainline.

There are 30 E175s coming to Republic this year too. They are not "growth" aircraft either.

Trying to understand why no growth.....any ideas? Could they possibly be thinking there is a need to get the existing capacity running right first?

Think of the age old military tactic of "divide and conquer." Thanks to the PHL Lec, the "divide" part is already taken care of for management. Let me explain further...there will be "growth" for LCC, it just won't be with mainline because mainline labor allows the growth to be outsourced.

I actually posted quite an essay about that on another post. They are interested in the opposite, consolidation and reducing capacity. That said, the US network doesn't have much growth potential anyway aside from limited international from PHL.

As far as growth for mainline itself, there could be growth if they were somehow able to recapture flying lost to Express. If US had the scope clause of other carriers and he same aircraft/service in use now(the large CRJs and the entire Embraer family), they would have almost 100 more airplanes worth of flying.

I've missed you Marv Jr., really. No, under a joint contract it will be smaller, because I know both groups are smart enough to not accept the EMB pay offer on the table. Remember, a replacement EMB may be coming to a base near you soon.

19 deliveries next year, 14-EMB, 5-A321.

I guess the replacement aircraft could come to Phoenix eventually, but what I do know is that they ARE steadily arriving at a base near you. Incidentally, just heard on the webcast as I type that there will be 19 deliveries next year, 14 of which are EMB jets. It's a good bet that all the EMBs will be headed out East. There's your attrition/captain upgrades. Enjoy.

p.s. I'm not jewish.

Now Doug is making a great comparison between airline pilots and FedEx/UPS pilots. Says it's in the best interest for labor to support consolidation. Nothing new, really just common sense. DAL pilots' biggest concern last time around had to do with the job losses associated with the MD90s and I don't blame them. Maybe Doug should have touted the retirement numbers from the East side to support his premise that there would be no pilot job cuts with a consolidated company.

Airlines Struggle to Contain Costs

US Airways said it plans to recall about 225 furloughed flight attendants and 130 furloughed pilots by the end of the year

The 6 EMB-190s will be staffed with about 70 pilots, but 130 pilots are being recalled on the East side of the operation per the article in this topic. That's a vacancy of at least 60 East pilot positions Group 2 and above.

In addition, the Company will begin taking delivery of 37 new A320 family aircraft in 2008 and apparently the A340, which most likely will be based in PHL for potential China, Tokyo, Moscow, and Tel Aviv service.

No, Doug just said there will be 19 deliveries in 2008 with 14 being EMBs. Also, I guess you don't understand the obvious but allow me to explain: the EMBs are not Group II. Therefore, when 6 737s (Group II) go away and six EMBs (group "III") arrive, then you actually have a net reduction of Group II captain positions. I know it's probably hard for you, but think about it.

Jewish? You stated before that your Dad was a UA guy, aka Marvin Mainliner, from a previous post, guess you missed that one. 🙂

Well, I hope they perform better than they do now. It seems like if you are on the 190 these days, you will not be on-time...is it the 190 or US?

He was a UA guy and before that a Navy helicopter pilot who got a Silver Star for a night rescue mission over North Vietnam.
