from the employee travel center: "yourself or any of your eligible’s",
must have been programmed by the same person who causes QIK/SHARES to as "clear all standby's?"

An apostrophe indicates a possessive or a contraction, not a plural. Maybe the don't teach that in the Tempe schools. This, of course, is from the same people who gave us Swenka on the kiosk a while back.

Please tell me you emailed someone out there about this.

What an embarrassment. Isn't there some sort of proofreading person? My lord, you could create an unpaid internship position for an editor out there and it would cost zero, zilch, nada.

Numbskull's!

OK Folks,

Insert standard US IT incompetence rant <HERE>

Proceed to non standard general Spelling, Grammar and punctuation rant <HERE>

This is by no means a defense of US Airways inability to master the English Language or failure to proofread. Poor Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation have reached epidemic proportions. If Bad Grammar were H1N1 the country would cease to function.

Had an incident her at the start of the school year. Got the standard back to school letter and after readingis we uncovered over 16 spelling errors, one completely unintelligible paragraph, dates that didn't match from the font page to the back page. Bad as in horrible sentence structure in three different paragraphs. Needless to say I called the Superintendent of Schools and let him have it with both barrels and the Lady Baretta  I returned the letter to the school all marked up in red pencil and told them I'd be happy to read their letters just as soon as they learned how to write one. That got me a call, LOL and I told the dope that I fully expected a letter with proper spelling & grammar or I would send the letter to the media. I got the letter and the kids didn't get hassled either. But boyo boyo the district did not like being held accountable

Point is the examples from US that we see aren't all that unique. Surf the web sometime and read stuff on CNN and MSNBC and others and more often than not there will be errors that our High School English teacher would have our arse on a plate if we turned in a writing assignment with them included,

It's just another sign of the continued dumbing down of our society and culture.

To be fair, there are many on this board who have weak skills in writing the Queen's English.

If you look at our required f/a manual there are so many typos and misspelled words its not funny! The comment is, when it is brought up is " you east people are too picky".....

Well, I feel pretty silly. In a thread about IT silliness, I posted two blank replies! In my defense, I was trying to post from my mobile phone for the first time, not my PC. Serious screen navigation problems!

What I was trying to say, in reply to VAflygal, was that the "clear all standby's" in QIK/SHARES was reported right after that dark day, nearly three years ago, when the switch was made from Sabre; it did not get fixed. I don't know if the errant apostrophe on ETC has been reported. But, if it has been, I am not surprised that it has not been corrected. In all fairness to it IT folks, they did fix the Swenska goof on the kiosk. After the Tempe lurkers had seen the kvetching on this forum.

I'll own up to probably being the worst among us when it comes to the plural/possessive. While usually reasonably good with the possessive (other than when it's just a typo), some plural spellings just don't look right to me without the apostrophe so I stick it in.

Have any of you walked around corporate HQ? I'll just leave it at that. 🙄

France at least has the French Academy, which is charged soley with the protection of the French language. Any new words or slang are properly translated or added to the cultural dictionary they publish. If it's slang they even instruct you on the proper way to spell and write it. That would never work in the States but at this rate handwriting and correct English will be gone very soon. Replaced with Yo YO- what it be? Utah wants to eliminate the 12th grade to save money. How about more instruction- we just keep dumbing it down.
Very sad.

I haven't been to the Sand Castle, but I understand that the average occupant is on the younger side of 35.

Sadly, sloppiness with the English language is everywhere, even from higher ups in the the business world. Some say e-mail (where spell check does not catch "there/their/they're/ errors. In ages past, an officer of a company would dictate a letter to a "secretary", who, armed with a command of English, would clean it up before typing it on a Selectric. Now, the officer writes an e-mail and hits "send". But there are other factors at work.

We will see if the Tempe lurkers fix the issues posted here.

Pants on the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
With the gold in your mouth, hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground, call yourself a cool cat
Lookin’ like a fool, walkin’ to the town
With your pants on the ground!

Is that a comma I see where there should be a period?
