I am hoping to get some help here. I am a NWA flight attendant and am looking to move to ATL so as to not have to commute. As a single parent I need some info on where the good schools are and areas to look to purchase a house. I sooooo appreciate any help that y'all could give.

Stay away from Clayton County (school system lost accreditation).
The rest of the southside is O.K.(better commute & building up).

Thanks you guys for all the information. I really do appreciate the help. Can't wait to meet all of my new colleagues!

I never really liked the Southside. I always lived in either Gwinnett or Dekalb. I also knew a bunch that lived in Cobb that were real happy. The southside always struck me as a little too Redneck and Biblebeltish. My wife also worked at a couple of hospitals that were on the northside so the commute for her would have been rough.

My last house was near Decatur. I couldn't afford to be in the city of Decatur but many say their school system is better. Some of my friends with kids made the choice to live there because of it. I would move back to the Decatur/Avondale area if either my wife or I get a job in ATL. It is a cool little city, a bit G/L but I'm ok with that. The homes are higher priced than south, but it is closer to the city center. The commute to the airport is no big deal. I also like the older homes that don't look like they are plopped down on some old farm field. Many actually are, but it was done so long ago the trees are all mature. I also liked that I wasn't surrounded by fellow Delta workers. I see enough of them at work.

Good luck with home hunting. I hope to be doing the same.

Another thing, when I moved there back in the late 90's someone said to me never buy a house in an area with Park or Point in the name and you'll be fine. He was wrong. I wish I had bought in Candler Park back then. The house would have doubled in ten years. Even with today's down market I don't think I can afford it there.

Never really liked the Northside........way too crowded, but of course all of metro ATL. is getting that way, Coweta and Fayette countys have good schools and not a bad drive to work !
